Hyundai 800 seems to be completely on track with the spy pictures revealed on the Internet. These pictures show a small Hyundai car, smaller than Santro, which looks inspired by the design of Hyundai i10 with the similar front profile, head lamps and front grille. The side appearance also resembles Hyundai i10 and the rear is almost vertically flat. The rear window is quite small and the overall size appears to be slightly shorter than Hyundai Santro. Hyundai 800 is believed to be developed on a shortened Hyundai Santro platform. The exteriors looks quite good and seems like this car is going to give a tough time to the competitor small cars in the price segment.
Hyundai 800 is expected to be launched by the end of year 2011 or early 2012 around the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi. The car will be powered by an 814 CC, 3-Cylinder MPFI Petrol engine capable of producing a peak power of about 50 BHP which is not bad at all. The major selling point for Hyundai 800 will be its fuel economy and pricing. With the low displacement engine, the Hyundai 800 may come out the best in class fuel economy car with Hyundai’s engineering optimizations. This will mean a tough competition to small cars in the price point of Rs. 2 Lakhs to Rs. 3 Lakhs.
India’s and World’s best selling car car, Maruti Alto will be directly impacted with this car coming to Indian roads. The most crucial part for the success of this car in India will be its pricing and fuel economy. The other factors which will matter are the after sales service network and brand reputation. Hyundai has got both of these factors quite strong. Lets wait and watch when official details are released.
