Modern vehicles come equipped with the latest technology which lends them unbelievable capabilities
A video has been going viral about the Huawei M9 Chinese car which was seen driving itself away from flood waters automatically. We know that today’s vehicles, especially EVs, are nothing but an amalgamation of electronics, sensors, cameras, radars, etc. Hence, they are able to monitor their surroundings at all times. In fact, that is what the ADAS technology and self-driving concept are based on. Since the vehicle is able to detect its surroundings, it can take appropriate decisions. This recent case is a prime example to demonstrate just that.
Huawei M9 Chinese Car Drives Away from Flood Water
This video stems from Motor Memo on YouTube. The visuals capture the entire saga. A parking lot is seen getting flooded with water. The exact reason for that is not known. In any case, vehicles are just sitting ducks in such conditions and the water often washes them away if situations get worse. However, that was not the case here. The electronics of the car sensed water accumulation around the area and alerted the owner via a message to his/her smartphone.
Not just that, the vehicle started itself and commenced moving around away from the water-logged area. It was able to do that with the help of cameras, sensors and other electronic equipment at its disposal. The car was trying to find a safe area at an elevation where the water hadn’t reached yet. It is fascinating to see the kind of technology available today. I must admit, Chinese cars have been at the forefront of it in the last few years. We keep coming across posts on social media showing off their unique abilities.
My View
Cars are no longer mere mechanical objects. These contain an incredible amount of computing power, electronic hardware, latest software, internet connectivity and even AI. Therefore, the vehicle is capable of taking some decisions to aid the drivers during emergency situations. It is still rare to see autonomous vehicles reach a widespread application phase. But knowing how swiftly things are moving along, the day is not far away when fully autonomous driving becomes common.
