The roof is actually a fabric material which you can remove only in the convertible variant. First, you have to unzip the rear windscreen area of the rooftop. Then, you have to unhook the roof for which you can find the clips inside the cabin, just behind the roll-over bar. Then just take the roof, open it up and fold it nicely to fit in the boot.
There you have your new Mahindra Thar convertible ready. For closing, you have to do the same process first take the roof and stretch it till the roof is covered. Then go inside the cabin, put on the clips and you are done. In the regular soft-top version, you do not get these clips to remove the roof covering.
Although, if you take it to your mechanic and after removing some nuts and bolts, you can even make the hardtop into a convertible. However, the entire process will take a long time and will also be chargeable. This entire process on a Convertible will take just a couple of minutes without the help of anyone.
