While Honda had confirmed that it will develop 2 SUVs of India, but fresh reports confirm that one of them might be a sub-4 metre compact SUV.
Compact SUVs are slowly and steadily take their stand in the Indian market, as the segment is now quite popular. With already Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra and Tata already putting their pawns in this class, no one else really has any chance.
But another popular automaker, Honda is missing from the scene. Technically, it has the WR-V in the same price range, but it is a crossover-SUV and not a proper SUV. Fresh reports suggest that Honda is now starting to take on the segment properly.
Last year, Honda confirmed that it will bring Two new SUVs to India, leaving the segment as a mystery. Now, reports suggest one of them might be a sub-4 metre compact SUV, based on the platform of Amaze.

However, the upcoming Honda compact SUV is unlikely to be seen before 2022. The SUV will be a global model and will sit on the extended platform of the new-generation Amaze. As for now, the WR-V is based on the platform of Jazz.
The new Honda compact SUV is likely to be priced competitively, to against Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. All of them garner decent sales every month.
The upcoming SUV is likely to use the same engine of the WR-V, which includes a 1.2 Litre petrol and a 1.5 Litre diesel unit. A 5-speed manual gearbox for the petrol and a 6-speed MT for the diesel will come as standard. We are expecting Amaze’s CVT to be equipped on this SUV as well.

Honda is also planning to launch another SUV in India, which will rival Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Mahindra XUV500. It will be priced in the Rs 12 Lakhs to Rs 18 Lakhs range.
