Honda had already registered their unsold BS4 bikes and scooters and are now selling them as ‘used vehicles’ but with zero kilometers on the odometer with huge discounts on their website.
When we had the transition from BS4 to BS6 emission norms earlier this year, the country was under a lockdown and naturally a lot of car and motorcycle dealerships were left with unsold stock of BS4 vehicles. Although the Supreme court did allow the sale of BS4 vehicles for just 10 days after the lockdown was lifted, manufacturers were still left with a considerable amount of unsold stock. Honda motorcycles too were left with unsold BS4 scooters and bikes and now the company is selling them at huge discounts but there’s a catch.
Well, there were two ways to deal with the unsold stock. Manufacturers could either take the vehicles back from dealerships and scrap the vehicles or there was a smarter way around this too. Since the Supreme court did not allow for registration of BS4 vehicles either after April 1, 2020, what the dealerships did is that they registered these vehicles in the names of employees and staff members of dealerships to later sell them as used vehicles. Of course being sold as used vehicles, their value drops considerably but it at least clears out the stock.
Post the lockdown, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) introduced an online campaign to offer booking of two-wheelers online. The HMSI official website also includes the sale of used two-wheelers like the Honda Activa 5G and Honda CB Shine with very attractive discounts as these were essentially unsold BS4 two-wheelers. These vehicles have been listed under the ‘used vehicles’ tab on the new online booking facility. But here’s the thing. Inspite of being listed as used vehicles, these two-wheelers have zero kilometers on the odometer.

As Honda could not sell out these two-wheelers on time, in order to clear the stock, these motorcycles and scooters have already been registered as BS4 vehicles and are thus now being referred to as used vehicles. Honda hasn’t explicitly stated that these are BS4 vehicles but the fact that they are completely unused clearly hints that these vehicles belong to the unsold BS4 stock. Naturally, availability will depend on models, and the inventory across individual dealerships. However, you as a buyer, now can avail these two-wheelers at extremely attractive prices. All these vehicles are still brand new and given the fact they have already been registered, you will absolutely no problems in running them thereafter.

In order to buy these new ‘used’ two-wheelers, you will have to visit Honda’s official website and submit personal details like name, email and phone number. You then have to choose your model and a dealership. However, as these are subject to availability of stocks, if one dealership does not have the model of your choice, you will have to choose multiple dealerships and fill up your details. Most of the stock already seems to be running out, so the ‘flash sale’ will be on a first come first serve basis. We must also mention that being sold as used bikes, you will be a second owner and if you are looking for finance, interest rates will also be higher.
