Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) launched the Navi and the Cliq last year to increase its foothold in the entry-level automatic scooter market. While the Navi and Cliq will be joined by the Grom MSX125 in near future, there is another Honda automatic scooter that will soon launch in India. Speculations are rife that the manufacturer will launch the Scoopy 110cc automatic scooter at the Auto Expo 2018. Prices of this gearless two wheeler will start around Rs 60,000. Specs will be largely similar to those of the 2017 Honda Dio. While there is no official word on the launch of the Scoopy, some spy images show the new scooter being tested in Shimla. Here are all the available details on the Honda Scoopy India launch prospects.

The Honda Scoopy automatic scooter will become a direct rival to the Yamaha Fascino and the TVS Jupiter. The Jupiter has been doing pretty well on the sales charts. While the Activa continues to be the undisputed king of automatic scooters in India, there has been at least some negative impact on its sales due to the popularity of the Jupiter. Honda will now try to change this by coming up with a direct rival in the form of Scoopy. The test mule in the spy images has a Blue paint shade. Also, the upcoming Honda scooter in India gets disc brakes at front and a drum wheel at the rear. This is another indication of the fact that the new model will be sold as a slightly premium offering. Of course, there will by a drum brake-only version to keep the base price low.

This scooter is already on sale as the ‘Metropolitan’ in the U.S. market. Its called the Scoopy in Indonesia though. We expect the same name to make it to India too. Powering the Indonesia-spec version is a 108.2cc, single-engine that outputs a maximum power of 8.9 BHP and a peak torque of 9.4 Nm. The India-spec model, however, is likely to get the same engine that powers the Honda Dio. This engine benefits from the Honda Eco Technology (HET) to offer a high fuel mileage. The motor comes mated to a V-Matic CVT. It outputs a maximum power of 8 BHP and a peak torque of 9 Nm. There are some rumours which go on to claim that HMSI might even decide to launch a 125cc version with the same engine that powers the Activa 125. We suggest you
There are some rumours which go on to claim that HMSI might even decide to launch a 125cc version with the same engine that powers the Activa 125. We suggest you to take this with a pinch of salt though. The features list of the Scoopy should include some premium bits like a projector headlamp, alloy wheels, front disc brake, telescopic front forks, and digital speedo console.
Honda Scoopy India Launch Date
Launch Date (expected) | February 2018 |
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) will likely showcase the new Scoopy automatic scooter at the fast-approaching Auto Expo 2018. Subsequently, the new scooter will launch in India days after its Delhi motor show debut. The Scoopy will share many mechanicals with the Activa 110. However, it will be promoted as a slightly trendier offering that will be aimed at the young and fashion-conscious.
Honda Scoopy Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs 55,000 |
Maximum Price | Rs 60,000 |
The Scoopy will take on the likes of TVS Jupiter and Yamaha Fascino. It will be promoted as a trendy offering that offers many premium features. Hence, prices won’t be all that low. Our guess is that the no-frills, entry-level model will cost Rs 55,000. The fully-loaded version with front disc brake and other bits will cost roughly Rs 60,000.
Honda Scoopy India Spy Images
The Scoopy scooter was recently spotted testing on public roads of Shimla. While the manufacturer is yet to make an official announcement of the launch, this sighting does hint that the scooter might make it to our market in coming months. As can be seen in these spy pictures, there is no camouflage on the scooter. This is another reason to hope for an imminent launch.
