Honda showcased the production ready version of the HR-V compact SUV at the recent Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil ready for launch on the South American nation. The HR-V, known as the Vezel in Japan, Sri Lanka and China is undergoing rigorous testing in Brazil and will be launched early next year. The euro-spec version was showcased earlier this year at the Paris Motor Show.
The Honda HR-V is based on the same platform as the Jazz and its styling is a mix of hatchback and SUV with elements such as a sloping roof line, black plastic cladding for the wheel arches, etc. The oversized tail lamps look a bit odd on what is otherwise a very smart looking car. The Honda HR-V comes with 138 bhp 1.8 litre flex fuel engine which develops a peak torque of 173Nm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission with and option of an automatic CVT likely to be offered as well.
Other details regarding the Honda HR-V are unknown at this point of time apart from the fact that it will be locally manufactured at the company’s Itirapina plant in Sao Paulo. It’s chief competitors in Brazil will be the Nissan Juke, Fiat 500x and Renault Captur.
India was initially supposed to get the Honda HR-V compact SUV to compete with the Duster, EcoSport, Avventura, etc. but those plans were shelved as Honda would’ve been unable to price it competitively. Instead our market will get a brand new compact SUV based on the Honda Brio with launch likely in 2016.
