Honda received as many as 2,400 pre-launch bookings in just 40 days for the Civic which is a rather huge number for the segment.
Honda launched the all-new Civic in India in March this year and the car has been received rather well by the Indian Market. The Civic received an overwhelming response in the first month of its arrival with Honda selling 2,291 units in March alone.
However, the Honda Civic sales number have gone down sharply since then, with Honda selling only 369 units last month. Still, the Honda Civic remains ahead of the competition which includes the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra.
Honda commenced bookings of the new Civic in February. Honda reported having received as many as 2,400 pre-launch bookings in just 40 days for the new Civic which is a rather good number in this segment.
The initial bunch of deliveries must have accounted for the high sales volume for the month of March, after which the sales have settled down and is expected to hover around the same mark.

Even still, the Honda Civic sales remained the best in the segment, outselling all its competitors. For the same period, Skoda sold 227 units of the Octavia, making it the second best selling sedan in the segment.
Toyota followed by selling 177 units of the Corolla and Hyundai fared the least by selling 85 units of the Elantra during the same period. The numbers for the Civic show how popular the Civic nameplate has been in India and it remains the top selling D-segment sedan in the country right now.
The Honda Civic is in its tenth generation right now and was has made a comeback in India after seven long years. It should also be noted that the Honda Civic is the most expensive vehicle in its segment.
The Civic starts off with a base price of Rs. 17.69 lakhs and tops out at Rs. 22.29 Lakhs, prices are ex-showroom. The cheapest offering in the segment is the Hyundai Elantra which has a starting base price of Rs 13.81 lakhs.
The Skoda Octavia starts from a base price of Rs 15.99 lakhs and the Toyota Corolla Altis starts at Rs 15.70 lakh in the market. The Corolla Altis had been the best selling sedan in the segment for a long time but has been pushed down now.

Honda has positioned the new Civic as the a premium product and has aimed it at current owners of the Honda City or any of its competitors, who would like to upgrade to a larger sedan. Honda is offering the new Civic with both petrol and diesel engine options. It is also the first time that the Civic is being offered with a diesel engine.
The diesel-powered Honda Civic gets a 1.6L, four-cylinder engine that produces 118 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The petrol counterpart is powered by a 1.8L, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that puts out 139 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 7-stepped CVT gearbox with paddle shifters as standard.
