The bookings for the Honda Civic, according to the carmaker has exceeded the 2-month sales achieved by the entire D-segment of sedans.
The 2019 Honda Civic was launched in India yesterday. The once popular executive sedan in the D-segment marks its re-entry in the Indian market in its 10th generation iteration. Honda had discontinued the 8th generation iteration of this sedan from the Indian market at the end of its lifecycle and subsequently chose not to launch the 9th generation owing to lack of demand and the unavailability of a diesel powertrain option.
Honda has now launched the Civic with a diesel engine option alongside a petrol derivative and believes that their package has everything that can revive a dying segment as buyers are now readily moving towards SUV in ditching the sedan in the process. And it seems that the Japanese automaker may be on to something as at the launch event of the new Civic yesterday, the company revealed that in the 3 weeks leading up to the launch of the Civic, it has received a total of 1,100 bookings for the same.

Senior Honda management further added that these 1,100 bookings are significantly more than the sales figures of what the entire executive sedan segment achieved in the last two months. For reference, at the moment, other products in the executive sedan segment comprise of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Hyundai Elantra. The combined sales figure of these three cars over the period of January 2019 and February 2019 stood at 705 units, so Honda’s claim stands true.
