The Auto Expo 2016 in February is expected to be bigger than any of the previous editions thanks to some massive launches by India’s biggest automobile manufacturers. India’s second favourite Japanese car maker, Honda, will bring it’s Creta challenger to the show along with other familiar, but now defunct, names such as the latest generation Accord and Civic sedans. Also, on display could be facelifted versions of their current lineup in India and maybe a couple of interesting concepts. Honda Cars at Auto Expo 2016 – BR-V India Debut
The star of Honda’s lineup will be the BR-V small SUV which is due for a launch in India in early 2016. The Hyundai Creta has seen a tremendous response since its launch in the domestic market, but Honda plans to play spoilsport with the introduction of the BR-V. It is based on the Brio’s platform and has been specifically designed for price sensitive markets such as ours.

Expect a launch soon after the Auto Expo at prices starting around INR 9 lacs going all the way up to around 13 lacs for the top of the line diesel trim.

Since the BR-V will not be bound the sub 4 m small car regulations, it will borrow its engines from the Honda City, which will include a 117 bhp 1.5-litre petrol mated to either a 5-speed MT or CVT and a 99 bhp 1.5-litre diesel mated to a 6-speed MT.

The Honda BR-V will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Tata Hexa.

Honda Cars at Auto Expo 2016 – New Accord India Debut
The once popular executive sedan was discontinued following a drop in demand and the rise in popularity of diesel powered vehicles, something Honda had no answer too. Although it still does not get a diesel motor, Honda will bring back the Accord in its current avatar to India next year. The sedan will draw power from a petrol motor for now, but a hybrid version could also be brought in at a later stage.

The new accord won’t come cheap with prices expected to start around INR 28 lacs. Such pricing will place it firmly as a rival to the Toyota Camry which start at INR 28.8 lacs.

Under the hood, you will find a 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 185 hp, and comes mated to a CVT/six-speed manual gearbox. The hybird, which is expected to be launched at a later stage, will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol coupled with a 124 kW electric motor with a combined power output of 196 bhp.

The Auto Expo is a platform for car makers to not only showcase their future products for the market, but also to show off other exciting products, concepts and technologies.
