Honda SIEL is working hard to bring a diesel variant of its popular small car Honda Brio in India as soon as possible to tap the opportunity in the small diesel car segment which is relatively less crowded at the moment. Officials of Honda and inside sources have several times indicated that Honda will try to bring Honda Brio Diesel as soon as possible. Earlier this month we reported that Honda is planning to launch the Brio Diesel by Diwali in 2012 as revealed by a company source. In January 2012 also one of the Honda officials revealed to media that Brio Diesel will launch in 2012 only. There have been some spy pictures of the Brio Diesel spotted now and then from some distance in past three months. This time, one of the Team-BHP members have got a very up and close video of Honda Brio Diesel testing on Indian roads with the engine sound very clearly audible which confirms that the Brio Diesel is under road testing stage. This means that Brio Diesel shall launch before November 2012 which is the Diwali festival season.

Honda Brio Diesel Engine and Specifications
Honda SIEL has not confirmed the Honda Brio Diesel drivetrain or engine specifications when we write this article, however, it has to comply with the small car norms of India which specify the diesel engine capacity to be under 1.4 Litre. We expect the engine to be a 1200 to 1300 CC Honda Earth Dreams series fuel efficient diesel engine with turbocharger. Looking at the video and the rev sounds and pickup of the car, it seems that the engine is quite peppy as well like in case of the Beat Diesel 1 litre engine. Honda Brio Diesel is expected to be priced starting at Rs. 4.8 Lakhs to Rs. 6.0 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. This price estimate is based on an expected premium of Rs. 80,000 over the equivalent petrol variants. The main competitor for Honda Brio Diesel will be some popular diesel small cars like Chevrolet Beat Diesel, Maruti Ritz Diesel, Maruti Swift Diesel etc. With Honda’s premium interior and build quality, Brio Diesel is expected to give a tough time to the competition.
