Honda Two Wheelers & Motorcycles India (HMSI) is well known for is well refined products like the Honda Activa gearless automatic scooter which has huge demand in Indian market or the super smooth and fuel efficient Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler which has a long waiting period as there are many buyers for the same. With the increasing popularity and demand for Honda two wheelers in India, the first plant at Manesar was not able to meet the demands required to quickly fulfill the deliveries of Honda scooters and bikes in India. In the wake of the same HMSI started developing additional second plant to increase the production capacity by opening second plant at Tapukara Industrial Area of Rajasthan. On February 14th 2012, HMSI held a line-off ceremony today with the second phase of production operations at its second two-wheeler production plant in Tapukara Industrial Area.

With the start of operations of second phase, HMSI has invested more than Rs. 1000 crore at the 2nd plant and doubled the annual production capacity of this plant to 1.2 million units. The second assembly line inaugurated today is flexible to manufacture both scooter and motorcycle models. HMSI will be manufacturing the Activa (110cc), CB Twister (110cc) and CB Shine (125cc) from this plant, in addition to existing Manesar plant. This plant has generated over 3,500 associates at second phase of full capacity.

On the occasion, Mr.NK Rattan, Vice President, Sales and Marketing Said :
“The plant initially started the operations on July 11, 2011 with initial annual production capacity of 0.6 Million units (6 Lakh). Further to meet growing demand of customer, 2nd phase with 0.6 million (6 lakh) units capacity is started today making the total capacity to 1.2 million (12 Lakh). With this, we shall be able to service our customers of Activa and CB Shine in more speedily manner”
Utilizing production technologies refined at the first plant as a starting point, HMSI has improved process ergonomics, employed more advanced automation, and introduced die casting in-house along with aluminum painting and other measures to increase the operating efficiency at this plant. It is also more environmentally responsible plant and pro-actively reduces energy consumption during production by employing environment friendly measures such as rain water utilization & waste water recycling.
In order to further realize Honda’s vision to provide good products with speed and affordability, Honda’s third plant at Bangalore area was earlier announced in September 29, 2011. The third plant is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2013, with annual production capacity of 1.2 million units.
This capacity expansion plan will increase HMSI’s total annual production capacity to 4 million units, including 1.6 million units at the first plant, 1.2 million units at the second plant and 1.2 million units at the third plant, preparing HMSI for further and rapid growth of the market.
