In second week of February 2012, we reported about the intention of sales of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A by its owners. Earlier report suggested the names of a few interested buyers which includes a list of big shot automobile giants like BMW, Volkswagen and Indian major Mahindra and Mahindra. As per the latest report by Bloomeberg, Hero MotoCorp is also considering to acquire Ducati Motorcycle brand as it will not only help Hero Moto to expand into more markets, but also it will help Hero Moto with developing its R&D even better. Hero MotoCorp is in talks with the concerned bankers about the acquisition. After its separation from the Hero Honda Joint venture between the Hero Group and Honda, Hero MotoCorp has been quite aggressively working out its plans for future product and technology developments. Recently, Hero MotoCorp has announced its association with American bike maker EBR (Eric Buell Racing), also there have been reports that Hero MotoCorp will buy stake in EBR to make the mutual cooperation even more beneficial and encouraging for both companies.

As per an official statement by Pawan Kant Munjal, the managing director of Hero MotoCorp
“Lots of people have been coming to us with Ducati: Not one banker but many bankers. We’re talking to a lot of people. Not just Ducati, whoever comes to us, we talk to them.”
Honda also has been progressing fast in India with its motorcycle business under HMSI (Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India) brand and has been investing huge sums on expanding its production capacity in India. HMSI has recently come up with a news plant and another one is in the making in Karnataka with Tax benefits from Govt. of the state already announced. HMSI is also aggressively expanding its product lineup in India as it launched 7 different products in India at the Auto Expo 2012 in India including commuter segment bikes like Dream Yuga, sporty Honda CBR150R to a new model of Honda Dio scooter. Also HMSI has launched its cruiser bikes and sporty motorcycles in India.
Bajaj Auto India is also a big competition for Hero MotoCorp has also been going well in India with its recent product partnership with KTM in India. Bajaj and KTM has revealed the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS in India while the KTM Duke 200 has been been launched in India.
It will be interesting to see how Hero MotoCorp evolves its future products to keep up with the fast changing two wheeler market in India and the stiff competition coming from the rival brands.
