In a recent virtual fan interview post the 2020 Russin GP, four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel recounts a rather funny incident from India after bagging his forth and final world title at the Buddh International Circuit.
From 2011 to 2013, when India had the privilege of hosting an F1 Grand Prix, it saw many great drivers by the names of Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, and Fernando Alonso make their way to India. If you are a fan of Formula 1 racing, you’d also remember that it was here in India where Sebastian Vettel bagged his forth and final World Championship title with a win at the Buddh International Circuit. In fact, all three F1 races over the three years in India were won by Sebastian Vettel.
In a recent virtual fan interaction post the Russian GP, the four-time World Champ recounts a rather funny incident he remembers from India. Responding to a question by an Indian fan about his memories from the BIC, Vettel said, “Well, I have won every race there was so, I love it. We won the championship in 2013 and we had a little bit of a party in a bar and we had some drinks and I had too many drinks and then I was driving back at some point in the morning to the airport and I was hungover and not feeling so good.”
This video was posted by Formula 1 on their Facebook page but wait, there’s a funny twist to the tale. The then Red Bull driver sure wasn’t prepared for the cultural shock he was about to get on his way back to the airport. He went on to say, “And then I said to my driver ‘Please do not tell me I am that drunk that there is an elephant on the road.’ And he said ‘No, no there is really an elephant on the road’. So, I will also never forget the elephant in the middle of the road. Only in India.”

A lot of years have passed since then, and while there are still elephants roaming about on the streets of India, Sebastian Vettel currently drives for Scuderia Ferrari but hasn’t been able to add another World Championship title to his name. He came very close in 2017 and 2018 but there’s nothing quite to bring down the Mercedes domination in this turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1. Vettel has however since then bagged fourteen more race wins under the name of Scuderia Ferrari.

He is however set to leave the Italian team after the end of the 2020 season and will be replaced by Carlos Sainz Jr from McLaren. The four-time World Champ has struggled a lot for the last couple of years in the red car, barely scoring any points this season. While there were a lot of speculations about Seb’s future in the spirt, he has thankfully found himself a seat at the upcoming Racing Point team for 2021 when it will get rebranded to Aston Martin. And that’s a great relief for Sebastian Vettel fans, to just be able to see him on the grid, and perhaps recall more such funny stories from his illustrious career.
