A leaked brochure of the Kia Sonet reveals all the variant-wise features as well as powertrain options that would be offered with each variant. The brochure also reveals the specifications of each of the engines.
Kia Motors unveiled the Sonet sub-compact SUV earlier this month and it has already garnered a lot of positive response. An expansive features list, equally expansive powertrain options and handsome looks – the Sonet has it all to take on the competition with a storm. While the launch is still sometime away in September, a leaked brochure of the Kia Sonet already reveals the variant-wise features and the powertrain options that would be available with each variant.
Just like the Seltos, the Kia Sonet too will be available in two trim lines – GT Line and Tech Line. However, unlike the Seltos, the variant lineup of the Sonet is much simpler. Under the two broad trim lines, there will be six variants on offer – HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and GTX+. There are five variants under the Tech Line while the GT Line comes in a single fully loaded GTX+ variant. Here’s the features on offer in each of the variants.
Kia Sonet HTE
This is the base variant of the Sonet and it will come with two powertrain options – 83PS/115Nm 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 100PS/240Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the latter will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is no automatic option here. In terms of features, here’s a list of what’s on offer :

This is the next variant in the lineup and it continues with the same powertrain options as the HTE variant – the 1.2L petrol with a 5-speed manual and the 1.5L diesel with the 6-speed manual. This is still towards the base-spec variant and it misses out on a few important features like alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and a few safety features as well. However, it gets some additional kit over the HTE variant as has been listed below :

- 2 DIN Audio system with 4 speakers, Bluetooth and UVO Lite
- Steering-mounted audio controls

Kia Sonet HTK+
This is the mid-spec variant of the Tech Line and this is where the cool features start coming in and the differences show from the base variant. This is also the only variant where Kia offers all three powertrain options with five transmission combinations – the 83PS/115Nm 1.2L Petrol engine with 5-speed manual; the 120PS/172Nm 1.0L Turbo-Petrol engine with either the iMT gearbox or the 7-speed DCT gearbox; 100PS/240Nm 1.5L diesel engine with 6-speed manual gearbox and the 115PS/250Nm 1.5L diesel engine with 6-speed torque converter gearbox. In terms of equipment, it additionally gets these features over the HTE and HTK variants.

Kia Sonet HTX
This is the second highest variant in the Tech Line of the Kia Sonet and it carries over most of the equipment from the HTK+ variant along with additional features. It does not however carry forward the the safety equipment. The powertrain options include the 120PS/172Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with the iMT gearbox along with the 100PS/240Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a manual gearbox. Interestingly, there’s no fully automatic gearbox option for this variant. It still misses out on features like alloy wheels and the bigger touchscreen infotainment system. It however gets these additional features over the variants before it.

Kia Sonet HTX+
This is the fully loaded variant of the Tech Line and it carries over all the features from the HTX variant and then additionally gets some more. It also carries over the powertrain options from the HTX variant and that means there’s still no automatic gearbox option here either. Also, in spite of being quite well loaded, it also does not get additional safety features. Here’s what the top-spec HTX+ variant gets over the variant below it :

Kia Sonet GTX+
The GT Line of the Kia Sonet comes in a single fully-loaded trim and there are certain styling changes on the outside as well to tell it apart from the Tech Line. Powertrain options are as follows – the 120PS/172Nm 1.0L Turbo-Petrol engine with either the iMT gearbox or the 7-speed DCT gearbox; 100PS/240Nm 1.5L diesel engine with 6-speed manual gearbox and the 115PS/250Nm 1.5L diesel engine with 6-speed torque converter gearbox. It gets some additional features over the HTX+ variant of the Tech Line as listed below :
- Red accents on front grille, bumper, side skirts, alloy wheel hub and brake calipers
- Revised air dam
- Blacked-out skid plate
- All-black interior upholstery with insignia on front seats and steering wheel
