In one of our recent posts we informed you of Tata Ace Zip which is a small version of the very popular mini-truck Tata Ace. Other than Tata, manufacturers like Piaggio, Mahindra & Mahindra, Force Motors and Bajaj Auto are also in the race to provide the best affordable yet durable mini-trucks.
At a press conference GM’s India Head Karl Slym said that the company has plans for launching two mini-trucks and three passenger vehicles in India, which would be sold under the Chevrolet brand.
He further added,” Light commercial vehicles in India are set to grow by 24 per cent on average in the next 3-4 years. This gives us scope of tremendous growth in the market and the light trucks, in the sub-one tonne and one tonne categories, would be priced competitively,”
In the current market scenario light trucks are scarcely available as well as manufactured and Tata is the only brand whose dominant enough to hold a market share of nearly 90%. Presently the market consists of Piaggio Ape, Bajaj Auto GC Max,Mahindra & Mahindra Gio and Force Motors Trumpas which are well established commercial vehicles and we would soon see GM joining the rally too.
