- Less Parking Space in Car-Lite Zones
- To be pedestrian and bicycle-friendly
Springleaf, famous for its crisp prata, is one of Singapore’s 16 iconic spots and is also known as the Car-lite Area, an area designed to promote walking, cycling and multiple modes of transport. We take this Springleaf walking tour to discover what other treasures this peaceful place holds and what makes it special.

Where is Springleaf located?
Springfield is located smack between Upper Thomson and Mandai. It is very close to Upper and Lower Seletar Reservoir around which one can expect a lot of greenery, peace and cleanliness. The new Thomson-East Coast takes you right outside the popular Makaan section, and it’s only a few stops away from The Woodlands MRT. There is enough space for cycles next to the MRT.
Attractions at Springleaf
Apart from the popular Springleaf Prata, there is also a variety of great Makaan lined with shophouses. Unicuis Chinese Cuisine serves Sichuan food (the beef hor fun at Mongkok Dim Sum is a must-try), and, at the end of the shopkeepers’ stretch, you can find the cheap old-school Yong Tau Fou at 928 Ngee Fou (Hakka) Ampang Yong Tau Fu.
Beyond that you should reach the Springleaf Nature Park, walking past the Shell Petrol Station. It may not have a huge “wow” factor, but it’s probably one of the most peaceful and quiet parks on our Little Red Dot. Henry Nicholas Ridley, the first director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, collected the first collection of native plant species from this park. When you’re tired from touring, recharge at The Lowe’s Shack, located at the entrance to the park. For dinner, head back to Shophaus for German Grub in Wilder Mann. Or grab a seat at Thai Hao Chi Mookata – they still use charcoal grills, which is quite a rarity in Singapore nowadays.

Car-Lite Area in Singapore
The HDB and LTA have designated several areas in Singapore as “car-lite” zones, which are designed to be more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly, and have fewer cars on the road. It is part of the Government’s efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and promote a more sustainable transport system. For example, there will be less parking space for these car-lite zones, and more space for greenery. There is enough space for the residents to park their vehicles.
