Tata Motors has been planning to launch the electric iterations of the Harrier and Safari SUVs for a while now
In the latest video, a heavily camouflaged iteration of the Tata Harrier has been spotted testing which leads us to believe that it might be the EV version. Harrier and Safari EVs have been widely anticipated in our market for a while now. The electric car category has been expanding rapidly in India in the past few years. Tata Motors is the leader in this space. Until now, it has mostly deployed the strategy of converting its ICE models into EVs. However, with the Punch EV and Curvv EV, it used its new-gen acti.ev dedicated platform. The future will bring even more EVs on this architecture.
Tata Harrier EV Spied?
This video captures a fully camouflaged SUV plying on the highway. Its silhouette indicates that it is a prototype of the Harrier. While there are speculations about the facelift iteration of the Harrier and Safari SUVs, I believe the electric versions are a priority at the moment. In fact, there have been instances of spotting the EVs prior to this on public roads. Clearly, the Indian auto giant has been thoroughly performing road tests of the upcoming EVs to ensure that these are compelling products.
It is still unclear what the specifications of the Tata Harrier EV are going to be. Still, some reports suggest that we might see a 60 kWh battery pack which will be able to offer a range of around 500 km on a single charge. Going by what the latest EVs from Mahindra claim, this number might not seem all that impressive. Apart from that, we also believe that the Harrier and Safari EVs will offer the option of a single-motor 2WD or a dual-motor 4WD configuration. Clearly, adventure seekers will love this aspect. The expected prices are around Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.

My View
The electric car segment in India has been expanding constantly in the last couple of years. In fact, after the unveiling of the next-gen breed of electric SUVs by Mahindra a few weeks ago, the future seems exciting and bright. In fact, Mahindra has made global EVs with tons of world-class features. Hence, I expect Tata Motors to follow suit. We will get to know how ambitious Tata Motors is with its EVs once we experience the Harrier and Safari EVs in the flesh.
