Fuel Mileage, a world which comes to the mind of every Indian whenever they think of buying a car. But it becomes difficult for an individual to validate the accuracy of the figures shared by the car companies, media or other buyer. To make it simple, government has taken an initiative of introducing Fuel Efficiency Labels. It has been proposed by the Government to help customers understand these fuel efficiency figures in a better way. These Fuel Efficiency Figures will help a new car buyer to compare the car models based on the certified fuel efficiency labels given by the government.

The Bureau of energy efficiency has almost finalized the rules for the fuel efficiency labeling which needs to be followed by all the automobile giants. It is going to be mandatory by March 2012, till then a voluntary run will be going. The main motive of initiating this in the auto industry is to improve the overall fuel efficiency of the industry. The rules set by the Bureau of energy efficiency may set a target for the auto industry to meet by the set deadline i.e 2015-2016. The government expects 20-25 percent of improvement in the fuel efficiency of the industry by 2015.
Failure to adhere to the norms set by the bureau will lead to penalties through a name-and-shame policy that will directly affect the brand names of the automotive companies. The committee is at the final stage of finalizing the standards, and the project will be launched soon with a final discussion with the industry and government to avoid any contradict later. Soon you will find all new cars on the roads with a label which will indicate its mileage accurately.
