The legendary former F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan took the recently launched Tata Altroz Racer on a race track. Kumar Ram Narain Karthikeyan is known for being the first Indian driver to compete in Formula One. Among his many achievements, his best award is the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Popular Driver. In F1, he has had 46 starts from 2005 to 2012. To commemorate his achievements, the Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2010. For now, let us take a look at the details of what he felt while driving the Tata Altroz Racer.
Narain Karthikeyan Drives Tata Altroz Racer
This video comes from OVERDRIVE on YouTube. The host of the news channel is seated on the co-pilot seat while Narain Karthikeyan takes the steering wheel. He mentions that it drives enthusiastically. In fact, he says that it is similar to the Polo GTI in Germany. Such mass-market hot hatches are able to bring this culture to the masses. The Altroz Racer offers a great steering wheel with direct feedback and the understeering is not present. That helps the driver negotiate the corners with precision. With the turbo petrol engine, the performance is already there. He thoroughly enjoys this hot hatch and mentions that it was 2 seconds quicker on this track in comparison to the sporty Hyundai i20 N-Line.
To hear such encouraging words from a legend like Narain Karthikeyan is great news for Tata Altroz fans. With the Altroz Racer, this niche segment has technically expanded to three products overall – Hyundai i20 N-Line, Tata Altroz Racer and Maurti Fronx Turbo. These vehicles give a great opportunity for driving enthusiasts to opt for an exciting vehicle without having to burn a hole through their pockets. That is the charm and appeal of such hot hatches, to begin with.
Tata Altroz Racer
The Tata Altroz Racer comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which generates a familiar 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. There is currently only a 6-speed manual transmission with this mill. Perhaps, a sporty DCT could join the lineup at a later stage. Interestingly, the same engine powers the regular Altroz as well. Hence, there aren’t too many changes to the Racer edition in comparison to the normal Altroz. On the outside, there are new body graphics to distinguish it from the non-Racer models. Also, the Altroz Racer offers tons of modern features and amenities to pamper the occupants. The prices range from Rs 9.49 lakh to Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
