Looking at the recent activity of Ford India on LinkedIn, the American giant is hiring professionals for its EV revolution in India. This comes as a surprise since it initially announced not to pursue EV plans in India back in 2022. Note that Ford had two manufacturing units in India – Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. After it quit manufacturing cars in India in September 2021, the fans have been asking it to come back. But it sold the Gujarat (Sanand) plant to Tata Passenger Electric Mobility for Rs 725 Crore. There were talks about its Tamil Nadu plant being on sale too.

Ford Hiring EV Professionals in India
The latest LinkedIn post from a Ford employee states that the company is looking for a Product Manager to help Ford drive innovation and shape the future of EV platform products in India. Ford Motor Company plans to invest in its R&D in electric mobility using its base in India. Note that the R&D centre in Tamil Nadu was never sold even after the company left the market in 2021. In fact, it kept manufacturing cars and engines for export markets after it halted cars for the Indian market. That is how it reported a profit of Rs 505 Crore in the Financial Year of 2023.

Note that many companies were looking to purchase its Tamil Nadu manufacturing plant due to its thoughtful location near the port. In the race to acquire this plant were the top automobile players in India including Mahindra, Tata Motors, Ola and Maruti Suzuki. In fact, the latest company which was in talks with Ford was JSW Group which has a large share in MG Motors. However, even that deal didn’t go through. Even the Vietnamese carmaker, VinFast, was mulling over purchasing this facility. Remember, it also plans to enter India in the near future.
