In a disappointing turn of events, Ford India rejects warranty claims of a Ford EcoSport owner after the SUV suffered a failed gearbox. Ford quit manufacturing cars in India back in 2021. However, Ford loyalists were eager for the American automaker to make a comeback. Recently, there have been plenty of reports floating around on the internet regarding Ford attempting to re-enter the market with products like the new Endeavour, a new mid-size SUV and the premium Mustang Mach-E electric car. While that remains to be seen, we have a case of an existing EcoSport owner whose claim has been refused by Ford to repair the broken gearbox under the extended warranty.

The details of this case have been shared by the owner on a Team BHP Forum. As per the details, the owner claims that he was travelling normally at around 30-40 km/h when he suddenly heard a loud metallic sound. Thereafter, he experienced significant jerks underneath the car before the SUV came to a complete standstill. The SUV was stranded in the middle of the road. The owner had to call HDFC Ergo Roadside Assistance to tow away the vehicle to the service centre. The workshop staff of Diara Ford Ranchi informed the owner that the breakdown was not due to any mechanical failure. As a result, it can’t be covered under extended warranty.

Needless to say, this baffled the owner. The service centre professionals asked the owner to consult the insurance company for the claim. However, the insurance company also refused to entertain this claim since there was no physical damage to the body of the car at all. This left the owner shocked and worried about who would cover the cost of this repair. It is understandable to see the plight of the owner despite having paid for the extended warranty, as well as insurance. Clearly, this is a unique predicament where it is unclear who should pay for the repair. The owner is contemplating approaching the consumer court for assistance and clarity on the matter.

Author’s Note
This is a rather strange case where the owner is stuck between the reluctance of the Ford dealership, as well as the insurance company to pay for the repair. Such situations are not all that common. Hence, we understand the conundrum. Also, unless we know the full details of this case, we don’t wish to make any comment or judgment. We can only hope that higher Ford officials intervene in this matter and come up with a solution suitable to all parties involved. We shall update this post once we get new details.
