Ford India almost saved the halt in production of its most popular SUV, the Endeavour. The full-size SUV has been around for almost 2 decades in our market. We have seen it evolve from a big hardcore SUV to a massive functional and practical SUV while retaining the off-roading characteristics in a matter of 18 years. People are still in love with the SUV which is market by its monthly sales and market share. Many SUVs tried to challenge it but simply succumbed to the popularity. Only the Toyota Fortuner remained a worthy competitor of the Endy until the very end. Even though the prices of the last model were in the ballpark of Rs 33 lakh to Rs 37 lakh, ex-showroom, it was still the best-selling car for the American auto giant. Here are some details of the behind-the-scenes before Ford discontinued producing cars in India.

Ford Endeavour Production India
Ford was selling over a thousand units of Endeavour in a month for a long time consistently. It understood the importance of Endeavour for its India operations. The EcoSport, Figo, Freestyle and Aspire were not selling nearly enough to sustain business in the country. That is the reason why Ford tried everything to ensure that at least the production of Endeavour continues. In a bid to achieve that, it approached other carmakers as well to strike a deal on a contractual basis. In this way, another carmaker would have incorporated the production of Endeavour in its own manufacturing facility. However, it didn’t come to fruition either. That is when Ford decided to halt the production of Endeavour in India.

Specs
The Ford Endeavour also comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine making 175 PS of peak power and 420 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are carried by a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Various drive systems (4×4) and terrain modes help in propelling the Endeavour through any kind of environment. Now, Ford has promised that it will continue to offer warranty, services, maintenance through the existing service centres. However, we have seen that a lot of people are suffering from closed dealerships in smaller cities. We will have to wait and see how things pan out in the long run. Ford will sell the Endeavour until the stock lasts which might be a great time to buy the SUV with discounts.
