For a while now it is being speculated that Ford will launch the 2012 Ford Focus soon but there is no official confirmation yet. Recently Ford has unveiled the ASEAN model of the 2012 Focus in Bangkok, Thailand. The ASEAN model is the one developed for the Asia Pacific and African markets and will feature different powertrain options.

By comparison to the previous generation, the new Focus features plenty of improvements. Some of the changes brought into the 2012 Focus are the kinetic design philosophy, reduced noise levels, increased efficiency and high levels of technology. Ford wants the Focus to be the class leader when it launched into the Philippines market in a few months from now.

Coming to the most important part, the drivetrain, the ASEAN spec model will be offered with an option to choose between two engines: a 1.6 litre Ti-VCT engine producing 125 BHP and a 2.0 litre Ti-VCT engine producing 170 BHP. A number of interesting features will be offered with the car and most importantly many of them will the first to be introduced in the segment that Focus will step into, in ASEAN regions.
Features to be offered with the car are as follows:
- Active Park Assist (self parking)
- Active City Stop (automatic braking when a collision is imminent within city speeds)
- Blind Spot Information System
- Ford SYNC
- Smart Keyless Entry with Power Start
The Focus in among the 8 models that Ford is going to launch under the One Ford plan. The same will be built at Ford’s new plant in Rayong, Thailand. If production of the car begins in Thailand in this very year, then there is a huge possibility for the same getting launched in India during 2013. The car is expected to be priced between Rs.12 and RS. 15 lakhs. It will compete with cars like Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Laura, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta and Toyota Corolla Altis.
