The much-talked-about new Ford Everest arrives on our shores in Chennai, India. It is possible that it could be heading to ARAI for homologation. The news of Ford making a comeback in India is in full flow. It has patented the trademarks for the new Everest and a mid-size SUV earlier. It has a capacity to manufacture 150,000-200,000 cars and 350,000 engines annually. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest development.

These are clear images of the famed SUV without any camouflage. As per the information from our sources, it was spotted somewhere near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The rear section of the Everest is visible in these visuals. There are LED taillamps connected via a black lightbar with Everest lettering on it. Apart from that, the rugged bumper with reflector lights is also apparent. Remember this is the same design language which the latest iteration of the Everest bears in various international markets. Therefore, it is a clear indication that the erstwhile Endeavour might finally be replaced by the Everest once Ford officially re-enters India.

In addition to the Everest, Ford also filed a patent for a Hyundai Creta-rivalling mid-size SUV. Automobile enthusiasts among you might remember it had plans to launch an SUV in this segment during its previous cooperation with Mahindra. It was supposed to be based on the Mahindra XUV500 at the time. However, since those plans fell through and Ford left India, the mid-size SUV never went ahead of the design board. But with the news reports of Ford making a JV with Tata Motors, those plans will revive. Finally, to capture a niche market, Ford could also bring its prominent Mustang Mach-E via the CBU route to cater to the elite class looking for a performance EV.

Ford’s return to the Indian market carries significant strategic importance. Naturally, the automaker will aim to avoid the challenges that led to substantial losses of $2 billion during its previous stint. This time, the primary focus will be on ensuring profitability. While the company may contemplate introducing premium models like the new-generation Endeavour and even the Mach-E, it will also give priority to mainstream models like the compact SUV to strengthen its foothold in the country.
