Ford has not updated its popular compact SUV, the EcoSport in India for quite some time now apart from the recently launched SE variant which was essentially the same car with the removal of the boot lid-mounted spare wheel. With the segment getting so competitive these days with around 10 cars present in the compact SUV space, Ford understands the importance of keeping the EcoSport updated to stand a chance. The sales figures also suggest the consistently low volumes of the compact SUV while the overall segment is growing rapidly. In order to change all this, Ford might be planning to launch an updated version of the EcoSport soon. This has been confirmed with the latest spy images of the facelifted EcoSport that have surfaced online. Let us take a look at what the images tell and also what to expect from the compact SUV.

Ford EcoSport – Spy Images
The SUV in the images is partially camouflaged but there are some key changes visible. The front end seems to be the talking point of this update. The front grille seems to be redesigned which is now even broader than before. The bumpers are even more sporty and new and house the fog lamps along with a uniquely sharp L-shaped LED DRL unit. The headlamps might also be slightly updated compared to the current model. On the sides, there are a new set of stylish alloy wheels that will give a different look to the side profile of the EcoSport. The third quarter of the EcoSport will likely be unchanged. There will be the spare wheel mounted on the boot door along with the split taillamp design and roof rails. Overall, the facelifted model will only be a slight update in terms of exterior dimensions from the current model.

Ford EcoSport – Expected Interiors and Features
The interiors of the Ford EcoSport will largely be unchanged compared to the current model that is on sale. However, we might see the inclusion of Ford’s SYNC 3 Connected Car Tech System which will enable a ton of connected features which is common with all its rivals these days. It extends a lot of accessibility and convenience features to a car. Apart from that, we expect the EcoSport to carry a large Digital Infotainment System, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Steering Mounted Audio Controls, Cruise Control, Digital/Part Digital Driver’s Instrument Cluster, Automatic Climate Control and much more. The safety aspects will also be taken care of with all the modern safety equipment.

Ford EcoSport – Expected Powertrains, Prices and Rivals
There will likely be no changes to the powertrain options on offer with the updated Ford EcoSport either. This means that we might see the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 120 hp and 149 Nm of peak power and torque or a 1.5-litre diesel unit making 100 hp and 215 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. The petrol engine could come mated to either a 5 speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, whereas the diesel will likely come with the 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. There might also be some increase in the prices and we might see the price range between Rs 8.50 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, ex-showroom for the updated EcoSport. The list of rivals is as long as it gets with products like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
