Ford is busy premiering a range of global models at the ongoing 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil. Recently Ford showcased the facelifted Ford Fiesta sedan which features a new front fascia with an Aston Martin type grille. Now the next news coming from the exhibition is about two new variants of the yet to be launched Ford EcoSport.
Ford has showcased the EcoSport in two avatars: one with a PowerShift automatic transmission and a 4WD version. The automatic version of the EcoSport featuring PowerShift technology could be important for the Indian market too. However, the all wheel drive version has less meaning here considering the fact that EcoSport is an urban SUV based on the Fiesta platform is not meant for hardcore off-roading.
But when it comes to slippery terrains especially for the regions which experience snowfall, a four wheel drive version would ensure better safety and security.

Below is the image of the 2 wheel drive version of the EcoSport with PowerShift automatic gearbox, while the above is the 4WD version. The automatic variant of the EcoSport has been spotted in India while it was on a test routine, so it is not new for us.
Although the EcoSport 4WD will be launched in a while in Brazil, more than real off-road fun the all wheel drive system will be a marketing strategy for more sales. This convention of offering all wheel drive systems on usual cars have become quite common lately.

Both the models on display equip a more powerful 2.0 litre 16 V flex – fuel Duratec petrol engine, and the company is expected to introduce the same in the Brazilian market soon.

Come 2013, Ford EcoSport will officially be launched in some of the major Asian markets including India and China. It will carry a set of turbocharged petrol and turbocharged diesel engines and will be priced very aggressively as the company says.
Now it remains to be seen how well the company prices it. We expect it to be priced very close to the Renault Duster but the actual price figure will only be disclosed at the launch.
