Ford has launched the Ford EcoSport compact SUV in China at the Beijing Auto Show 2012 in month of April. The suspense over the interiors of the EcoSport has been cleared and as expected, the Ford EcoSport will features most of the interiors and feature list inspired the new Global Ford Fiesta which also sells in India. The new global Ford Fiesta 2011 was launched in India in August 2011 and the new Ford EcoSport 2012 was first revealed globally from India at the Auto Expo 2012 in India. At the time of global unveiling of the EcoSport from India, the interiors of the car were not revealed as they might have been under development at that time. Also there has not been any details on the feature list, variants, engine options to be launched in India, however, Ford did showcase their 1 Litre 3 Cylinder EcoBoost engine at the time of revealing the EcoSport in India. At the Chinese launch of the EcoSport in Beijing, Ford China has launched the EcoSport with the 1 Litre EcoBoost Engine with 118 PS of peak power and 125 Nm or Torque. Another engine which is 1.5 Litre Ti-VCT petrol engine featured in global Fiesta is also likely to be sold along with the EcoBoost engine.

The interior console of the production version of the Ford EcoSport has similar steering design, with stereo mounted audio controls but the cruise control feature seems missing in the EcoSport. The Central audio system seems almost the same as in the new global Ford Fiesta. The AC vents, Multi-information display and knob designs in the Ford EcoSport 2012 production version are also almost the same as that in the new global Ford Fiesta.

The interiors seem roomy with leather upholstery and two row of seats for 5 adult. The leg room as well as the headroom seem to be ample on both the rows and there is good luggage space behind the second row which makes enough boot space for urban commuting. Interestingly enough, Ford India has also updated its Official Indian website with many more details of Indian Ford EcoSport 2012. Some of the key features which Indian Ford EcoSport will also feature includes:
- Large ground clearance of 200 mm for better drivability on bad roads
- 550 mm water wading which means that it can take care of shallow water bodies on rough mountain or rainy terrains
- It will have an approach angle of 25 degrees, break over angle of 20 degrees and departure angle of 35 degrees to make it ready for bad toughs off-roads
- High strength chassis made of boron steel
- Higher seating position for better visibility
- Lowest NVH levels in class and quietest cabin in the segment
- Bluetooth Sync with smartphones
- Cooled Glovebox and 20 storage places inside the cabin
- 60:40 split seats at rear
- 346 Litre Boot space with middle row seats in place
- 560 Litre of boot space with middle row seats folded
- Hill launch assist to keep car from rolling back on incline
- Start-stop Button for engine and smart keyless entry system
- ESP, Traction Control System and ABS for better safety
- 20 KMPL Ford EcoBoost Petrol Engine which will deliver unparalleled petrol mileage
- 120 PS of Power and 170 Nm or torque with small 1 Litre engine
- Aerodynamic design to save fuel be reducing coefficient of drag
- Option of 5 Speed Manual or 6 Speed PowerShift Dual Clutch Automatic transmission system

The feature list on the top end Titanium version of EcoSport Launched in China consists of keyless entry system, push button start stop feature for engine, cooled glovebox, EPAS power steering system, hill launch assist system, voice activated command system, 16 inch alloy wheels etc. to name a few.

The EcoSport will soon be launching in Brazilian Market as well before its Indian launch and it is expected that it will make its way to India somewhere around October 2012 before Festival season in India. The launch of competing compact SUV Renault Duster is also due in India and Ford may plan to launch the EcoSport before it to gain the early bird advantage in the Indian market. Recently Maruti Suzuki Indian CEO has also revealed that Maruti is working to fast forward the Maruti Compact SUV (based on XA-Alpha) Launch in India which may launch in Mid 2013 or so to bring more competition to this upcoming segment in India.
