Reports say that a new top-end variant of Force Gurkha has been launched. The range-topping Xtreme variant gets a more powerful engine with some other mechanical upgrades as well.
Very few people may know about Force Gurkha. Gurkha comes in 2 variants, out of which, one offers 4X2 and the other one offers 4X4 drivetrain. The 4X4 variant classifies as a hardcore off-roading SUV, matching the likes of Mahindra Thar.
Autocar reports that a new top-end variant has been added on Gurkha’s lineup. Force Gurkha Xtreme is the new variant, which gets mechanical upgrades and a new and more powerful engine. It is priced at Rs 12.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
Gurkha Xtreme comes with a new 2.2 Litre diesel engine, which is sourced from Mercedes Benz. The new engine puts out 140 BHP and 321 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a new Mercedes Benz sourced 5-speed manual gearbox that pairs the engine with a dual flywheel.

The other variants of Gurkha come with the old 2.6 Litre CRDE diesel engine. The engine produces 85 BHP and 230 Nm of peak torque. The other variants also pair up with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine earlier came with the Force One SUV.
Another significant mechanical upgrade on Force Gurkha Xtreme includes a low-range transfer case. However, the new variant misses out on the shift-on-the-fly system. The new variant also gets a multi-link arrangement in the front suspension, making the tire wider by 40mm. At the rear too, it gets one.
As a result of this, the approach and departure angles have also been revised. Force Gurkha Xtreme gets a ground clearance of 205mm and a water wading capacity of 550mm.

Inside the cabin, the new variant gets a refreshed centre console and gear lever. The new variant continues with differential locks at the front and the rear, like the other Gurkha. Rest of the features and equipment remains the same.
Force Gurkha competes with the likes of Mahindra Thar, which is the most popular off-roader in India. However, due to poor knowledge of the brand, Force Gurkha is not very well known.
Gurkha is now available in three variants – Xpedition, Xplorer and Xtreme. Xpedition variant is priced between Rs 9.75 Lakhs to Rs 9.99 Lakhs. Xplorer is priced from Rs 10.49 Lakhs to Rs 12.15 Lakhs.
