The road testing of new 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 has already commenced in India. We will be seeing the new version at the Auto Expo and here are all the changes that it can get.
For the 2020 Auto Expo, Hyundai has a couple of new cars in its pocket. It is likely to show the new 2020 Hyundai Elite i20, Creta, Xcent Nios and Verna. Well, the i20 and Xcent Nios have been spied testing in India, but the latter two are spied outside India.
The new i20 will sport a plethora of new features, new engines and completely revised styling. Going by the international spy shots, we expect the new version to be a lot sportier than its current outgoing version.
In India, we will see the new i20 at the 2020 Auto Expo, but we are not sure if it will be launched at that time. Here are a couple of changes that will come on the new 2020 Hyundai Elite i20:
1. Engines
As of now, the Elite i20 comes with a 1.2 Litre petrol engine, that produces 82 BHP and 114 Nm of peak torque. The 1.4 Litre diesel unit produces 89 BHP and 220 Nm of peak torque. With the BS-6 versions of these engines, the i20 will additionally get Venue’s 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine. In its current state, the engine produces 120 BHP and 172 Nm of peak torque. With the i20, we expect the engine to be tuned for producing anything between 100-110 BHP.
2. Transmission
The petrol unit will continue with the 5-speed manual, whereas the diesel with the 6-speed diesel unit. Hyundai has hinted that the 7-speed DCT from the Venue will also come on the new 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine. The new gearbox will come only on one engine and likely on the top-spec variants like Sportz and Asta.
3. Features
Going by the spy shots, we can say that the new 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 will get an electric sunroof and LED projector headlamps for sure. Other features will include wireless charging, Venue’s Touchscreen infotainment system with Blue Link technology, Driving modes, ambient lighting and much more. It is already the most feature equipped hatchback in its segment and with the new version, it will continue to be so.
4. Styling
In terms of styling, the new i20 will get sportier and sleeker bumper sets, a fresh honeycomb mesh grille, and revised headlamps and tail lights. Even with these minor changes, the new i20 will look a lot different. Inside the cabin, there will be a new colour for the dashboard and refreshed upholstery as well.
5. Prices
New features, BS-6 engines and the new engine-transmission set it set to increase the prices of the new Hyundai i20 by a good margin. For petrol engines, you can expect Rs 20000-30000 more depending on the variant. We are not sure of how much the diesel variants will cost more. As of now, the price range of Elite i20 starts off at Rs 5.5 Lakhs to Rs 9.31 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
