Thankfully, it is not every day that we come across undesirable accidents at CNG filling stations
In a rather shocking turn of events, we encounter the first incident involving the new Bajaj Freedom CNG. It took place at the CNG filling station. Freedom became the first motorcycle in the world to offer a CNG powertrain. In a country like ours where running costs can be decisive when purchasing new motorcycles, CNG is a great option. This is particularly true for large cities where the infrastructure around CNG is aplenty. For now, let us take a look at the details of this recent case.
First Incident of New Bajaj Freedom CNG
The specifics of this case stem from Raghav21 technical on YouTube. This video clip contains CCTV footage from the CNG filling station. A man brings his new Bajaj Freedom CNG to get the CNG filled. The station attendant fits the nozzle of the CNG pipe inside the bike. After sticking the pipe inside the fuel tank, he commands the machine to start releasing the gas. Unfortunately, an explosion/leakage occurred as soon as he switched the machine on. Perhaps, the nozzle was not properly attached to the fuel tank. In any case, the gas leakage resulted in chaos around the place.
What was particularly concerning is the fact that the attendant got injured in this case and he is seen lying on the ground. The other bystanders ran for their lives after seeing the leakage. In fact, the fuel pipe was seen flying in the air. Since this is CCTV footage, we are not able to hear anything. The video clip ends abruptly at this point. The exact reason for this leakage is not clear but it seems like the carelessness of the attendant while attaching the pipe inside the fuel tank of the bike. Also, no reports about the details of the injuries to him are out yet. We can only hope that he is safe.
My View
This has to be among those rare occasions where such an incident came to the surface with regard to a CNG vehicle. Generally, CNG technology is quite safe, especially the one where the equipment comes installed from the factory. However, the safety at the CNG filling stations depends on the personnel working there. If they become careless even for a few seconds, things could get fatal within no time. That is exactly what we saw here. The pressurized CNG can cause immense injuries to the people around. Let us take this as an example to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
