Skoda Kylaq is a prominent compact SUV which marks the brand’s entry into the sub-4m space in our market
The first accident of the new Skoda Kylaq with a truck has been recorded in the latest photos. Kylaq aims to take a significant bite of the rapidly burgeoning compact SUV segment in India. It already features numerous products from just about every major carmaker in the country. Hence, the competition is really fierce. This category strikes a great balance between affordability and practicality. Kylaq borrows a lot of elements from its elder sibling, the Kushaq. For now, let us delve into the details of this case here.
First Accident of Skoda Kylaq
This post stems from safecars_india on Instagram. The images showcase the entire aftermath of the crash. As per the information in the video, the vehicle was coming out of a petrol pump when a speeding truck ended up hitting it from the side. The post caption indicates that since the vehicle merged into the main road suddenly, the truck driver was unable to control his truck and scratched the SUV from the side. Since the deliveries of the Kylaq haven’t commenced yet, we see this model wearing a red numberplate which means this was a test mule.
In any case, the side body skirting of the SUV has come off. The photos show how the rear section of the Kylaq got hit by the truck. Thankfully, the collision was not severe and the side section of the truck barely caressed the compact SUV. As a consequence, there is a dent on the side door panels. Apart from that, there are no major dents or deformations anywhere else on the body of the SUV. Note that the Kylaq is a 5-star safety-rated car at the Bharat NCAP. Hence, its strong build quality shines through in this case.
My View
I believe it is never a good idea to judge any car based on an isolated incident. Still, cases like these give us an idea of how accurate the safety ratings are. We must remember that the crash tests are conducted in a controlled environment. Hence, real-life accidents showcase the real picture. In this case, the vehicle was able to perform well. I would advise our readers to not jump to any conclusions from this single incident. Let us keep an eye out for more such cases in times to come.
