VAHAN is designed to streamline the process of finding information about a used vehicle. It offers information about the owner as well. The overall process is quite simple. You can get detailed information about a vehicle by just using the registration number of a vehicle. This includes:

- Manufacturer and Model Name

Previously, the government offered vehicle information via text message services. Now, it has been replaced with Parivahan Portal. Now, you check the car owner details of any vehicle in India in simple steps. Here’s how to use the “Parivahan” Portal to find vehicle owner information by the registration number/ number plate:
- Visit the official Parivahan Sewa website – http://parivahan.gov.in
- Click on “Online Services > Vehicle Services” on the top menu.
- Select the state
- Enter the vehicle’s registration number
- Enter the RTO and click on tick box to accept conditions
- Click on “Proceed” to proceed
- That’s it!

How to Get Vehicle Owner Details by Registration Number Using the “Vahan” Portal?
- Visit the official Parivahan Sewa website – http://parivahan.gov.in
- Now, click on “Online Services > Vehicle Services” on the top menu.
- Select the state
- Then, enter the registration number.
- Next, enter the RTO and click on tick box to accept conditions
- Next, click on “Proceed”.
- Now, you’ll be able to view the full vehicle owner information of the car’s registration number you enter.
Alongside vehicle owner details, you will be able to see the registration date/ city, vehicle make/ model, number of owners so far, and more. Note: You will find all the information and details about the cars registered at the RTO. These details correspond to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.

What else can VAHAN be used for?

Other than VAHAN or Parivahan portals, you can also find vehicle details directly on a mobile phone by simply sending a single text message. This option works even if you don’t have an internet connection. All you need to do is send a simple text message with the registration number. Here’s how to get the registration details of a vehicle through an SMS:
- On a mobile phone, open the Message application.
- In the message space, type VAHAN Registration Number of the vehicle (Example – VAHAN WB123ABCxx9).
- In the recipient number space, enter the VAHAN SMS number: 77328-99899.
- Send the message.
- A message will be sent back with a few details including the vehicle name, type, fuel type, registered state, owner’s name, and the expiry date of the registration certification.
