Fiat Tata joint venture called FIAL (Fiat India Automobiles Limited) has completed manufacturing of 2 Lakh powertrain engines from its Pune plant located at Ranjangaon. The plant was built to manufacture engines for Tata and FIAT cars as well as for exporting engines to other Fiat facilities across Europe.

Mumbai, 18th November, 2010: FIAT India Automobiles Ltd today rolled out the 200000th powertrain engine from its Ranjangaon plant in Pune. The state-of-the-art facility at Ranjangaon plant started manufacturing power trains in July, 2008. FIAL’s facility at Ranjangaon is among largest powertrains manufacturing plants of Fiat anywhere in the world. The plant was built to manufacture engines for Tata and FIAT cars as well as for exporting engines to other Fiat facilities across Europe.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Gurpratap Boparai, Vice President – Power Train Technologies, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd said, “The state-of-the-art TATA-FIAT manufacturing facility epitomizes our commitment towards bringing cutting edge technology to India. The remarkable figure of 200000 engines in a short span of time is a testament to the commitment of both the partners and to the tireless efforts of the team which has worked to make this a world-class facility”.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. R. Ramakrishnan, Vice President- Commercial (passenger Car Business), TATA Motors said, “Our partnership with FIAT is a win – win for both parties. Fiat’s powertrain engines are powering the new generation Tata cars, additionally; the engines are also being exported to other countries which indicate that India could really be developed as a hub for the manufacture of technologically advanced engines.”
The plant is a shining example of a great partnership between two auto majors. Ranjangaon plant has also produced 110000 car units which include both TATA and FIAT branded cars. Cars manufactured under TATA are Indica and Indigo Manza and FIAT brand includes Palio, Punto and Linea.
