The crossover segment is fast gaining popularity in India and every company wants to grab a share of the same. There are a few companies in India which do not have a compact crossover on offer (yet) like VW, Skoda, Fiat and others. Some of these companies are plugging this gap by giving their hatchbacks the crossover treatment, for example the Volkswagen Cross Polo or the Toyota Etios Cross.
Fiat is planning to go on the offensive in 2014 for India to turn around its fortunes and the first in the scheme of things will be the Fiat Punto Avventura, which as the name suggests is a ‘tougher’ variant of the Grande Punto.

We had reported in the previous update that the Fiat Avventura will be receiving a new paint option, Bronze Tan. Now spy shots reveal how the car will look in that particular shade, check the image below.
What do you think?
There is also news that Fiat may have fiddled with the ECU of the engines powering the Avventura for better driveability, this had to be done to compensate for the additional weight of about 65 Kg that the car gains over the Punto Evo.

A report on IndianHoods.com has revealed more details about the upcoming Fiat Avventura faux-crossover.
The car will be offered with six paint options, which include: Zafferano Orange, Bronze Tan, Exotica Red, Minimal Grey, Hip-Hop Black and Vocal White. The Bronze Tan will be a new paint option, it is not available on any other car currently sold by the company in India.
Other details revealed include trim and engine options. The Fiat Avventura will supposedly be offered in five variants, 3 diesel variants and 2 petrol. The petrol variants will be powered by the same 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder engine that does duty on the Fiat Punto Evo, it produces a maximum power of 89 BHP and 115 Nm of maximum torque. The diesel engine, as we had mentioned before, will be the 1.3-litre MultiJet producing a maximum of 92 BHP and 209 Nm of torque.

Fiat dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings for the upcoming Avventura faux-crossover. The car will be launched in the second week of October with deliveries commencing soon after. Interested customers can book the car for Rs. 20,000 at the nearest Fiat dealership. It will be interesting to see how the Avventura does in terms of sales as the other cars in this segment have not done well. Apart from the increased ground clearance and stylistic changes, the Avventura does not offer anything extra as compared to the Punto Evo.

The Fiat Punto Avventura is in production at Fiat’s Ranjangaon plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The latest spy shots of the car show that the production variant will not get dual-exhausts like the concept car. A ’90 HP’ badge can also be seen, indicating that the Avventura will be powered by the 1.3-litre 92 BHP / 209 Nm diesel motor. Check out the spy shot below:

The Fiat Punto Avventura will closely follow after the company launches the Punto Evo on 5th August 2014. The car is not expected to look very different from the concept except for some tid-bits (see update made on 21st May 2014). Fiat will market the Avventura as a Contemporary Urban Vehicle, which means that it will be a more butch looking variant of Punto which can be driven on-road. Check out our walk-around video from the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
We will keep you updated on the Fiat Avventura, keep tuned in to Car Blog India.
Updated on 3rd June 2014
According to a report, changes made to the Fiat Avventura will largely be cosmetic. Except for the larger wheels and fatter tyres and raised suspension, the mechanical underpinnings of the car will remain the same as the upcoming Punto facelift (which in turn retains the mechanicals of the current Grande Punto). This means that the Avventura will be powered by the 1.3-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol engines found on the current Punto, both producing 90 BHP of maximum power.
We will update this story as more news comes in. Stay tuned.

An non-camouflaged Fiat Avventura production model has been spied. Though only the front angle is shown, we can make out the changes between the production variant and the concept showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. First off, the projector headlamps are retained but the other components in the unit seem to have received a slight redesign. The skid-plates are now silver, rather than the grey ones found on the concept. The LED daytime running lamps on the bumper have been replaced by normal fog-lamps, we hope Fiat offers those as an option at least.
No other changes can be deciphered as of now, but the production model is expected to get extra-body panels, external spare wheel mounted on the boot-lid and bigger tyres.
There may be mechanical changes too, including a new 6-speed gearbox, which could be paired to more powerful versions of the engines found on the Punto. Or Fiat will stick to norm and make no mechincal changes to this faux-crossover at all.

The Fiat Punto Avventura has been spied testing in India before it’s official launch here sometime later in 2014. The car showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo was a ‘concept’, which along with these spy shots leads us to believe that Fiat will make many changes to the car at least on the outside. Check out the photo below:
As you can see, Fiat has heavily camouflaged the rear and front of the test mule which may indicate that the car will get some changes from the concept showcased earlier.

The Avventura is similar to the upcoming Punto facelift but has been lifted, gets broader tyres and projector headlamps at front. Inside it shares the basic layout with the Fiat Linea facelift, but gets some interesting equipment on the centre console including a compass, clinometer and tilt-meter.

Engine options may remain the same as the current ones offered on the Punto, the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel. There are reports suggesting that Fiat could also plonk in a 1.4-litre petrol engine, but that could make it expensive as the variant would no longer be eligible for the small-car duty cuts.

Fiat Punto Avventura has just been teased by Fiat and the car will be launched the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Punto Avventura is a redesigned Punto which comes shod with an off-road kit. The car will come with cladding on the lower half of the car with bumpers and doors playing host to it. The front and rear bumpers will get redesigned as well to give the car a slightly more aggressive look. It will see a rise in ground clearance as well which might be raised to about 210mm from the 185mm of the current Grande Punto.
The Fiat Punto Avventura will come with a tail gate mounted spare wheel like conventional SUVs which will be a segment first as none of its competitors which include the Polo Cross and Etios Cross feature the same. We know it’s a small touch but the same will surely attract a lot more attention than the competition. The teaser image showcases that the rear bumper will come with a hinge that will be used for being a swingarm mechanism for the spare wheel.
The company is believed to have carried out Research and Development for the car at its Chennai facility with help from the Italy headquarters. That hints towards the fact that the car may feature revised mechanicals instead of a cosmetic makeover. Its alloy wheel design will be similar to the one which we see on Fiat 500 models. The exhaust will be carried over from the Linea T-Jet. Under the hood will be the 1.3 Fiat Multijet diesel engine which will available in either of the two states of tune it is offered in the Linea: 74 BHP or 89 BHP.
Expect it to be priced around Rs 7 – 7.5 Lakh.
