Fiat is planning to stop manufacturing Fiat Palio which once made respectable sales and now the Palio is going the same way that Fiat Uno did and is destined to exit the market very soon. With less than 50 Units a month the car hardly contributes to the net sales of the company. Another reason for phasing out Palio is to welcome in the Grand Punto which is a better car any day. But the company still ensures that the car will run for a while on the Indian roads and the company is not willing to make any modifications in regard to the BS-IV compliance.
Maruti Suzuki is also phasing out the Maruti 800 and this along with Palio will run parallel as far as the BS-IV norm implementations are concerned. Reasons could be many if this phasing out is considered but the dip in sales for Palio started after other carmakers like GM, Hyundai , Ford , Tata , Daewoo and Maruti Suzuki launched their vehicles belonging to the same segment. The Palio comes in two variants one being a 1.1 litre and the other a 1.6 litre engine and fall under a price range of 3.5 lakhs to 4 lakhs.
On the other side Grand Punto which was launched in June 2009 is running fine with 1500 units a month and the company will soon launch two enhanced variants – a 1.2 litre petrol and the other is a Sports variant which is yet to come and in the month coming, company is expecting to roll out the new Punto and Linea.
