Fiat India has been quiet for some time now and will remain so for the rest of the year. This would not mean that they don’t have any plans for the next year as sources say that the Italian major is going to get very aggressive in 2012. So what it has down the line for the Indian market?
To start with the manufacturer will introduce facelifted models of both the Fiat Linea and Fiat Grande Punto and besides these a new small car is also going to make its way in the hatchback segment. The development of the new car is in progress at Fiat’s Italy R&D center in Turin and will be placed just below the Punto, targeting at Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo, Toyota Etios Liva etc..
85% of the car’s components will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. Talking about the appearance of the car, experts expect the car to be resembling Fiat Palio in terms of size only and not design. So we would get to see a car with an altogether new skin available both in MPFI petrol and CRDi diesel variants and will be in the price band of Rs. 3 Lakh to Rs. 3.5 Lakh.
Rajeev Kapoor, Fiat India’s president recently said, “The small car is under development. We had announced earlier that our intention is to launch it in 2012. The exact timing and details will be shared when we will be ready with the product,”
Talking further he hinted on the company’s plan for bringing another product through the CBU route and he added, “There are different routes and opportunity to launch a model in India and the completely built unit route is one of them. Every route is open to us and we are still evaluating”
Fiat Sedici could be the one that Fiat wants to bring in through the CBU route but it is only an assumption. The suspense has already been created by the brand and the anticipation has started to grow so we would sit and keep an eye over the future activities of the brand.
