The sports edition of the Renault Triber has been spotted testing. The launching is expected to follow soon. The Triber is one of the most promising products from the French automaker in India. Its claim to fame is its affordability and practicality. It is the most affordable 7-seat MPV in our market. The 7-seat arrangement is not in the utilitarian aspect as is the case with some other SUVs, but in a proper MPV aspect with modern cabin and car-like features. Triber has been a workhorse for Renault India for quite some time now and the monthly sales around the 3,000-unit mark have been consistent. In a bid to enhance its appeal further, Renault is planning to launch a sports edition of the Triber. We have exclusive spy shots of the MPV doing on-road testing.

The updates on the exterior are quite evident. The front fascia is decorated with a bit of chrome treatment. The headlamps also seem to be a bit tweaked but the difference isn’t too evident. The bumpers might feature a different design too. A prominent change comes in the fog lamp housing which has red inserts around the lamps. They also look like LED units. Coming to the side exposes us to the red inserts on the side skirting and ORMVs. Also, try the 6-spoke alloy wheel design is unique to this variant although it isn’t very flashy and looks rather simple. However, it may well be that the final version will have a different set of alloy wheels. The side profile is accentuated by the blacked-out A, B and C-pillars along with roof rails.

The rear has some changes as well. The roof-integrated spoiler is finished in red and the bumper has a skid plate to give the MPV that sporty appearance. There is a chunky chrome slat connecting the taillamps which has Triber embossed on it. The dual-tone exterior theme is synonymous with sports editions throughout the industry.
The biggest change, however, will happen under the hood. The new model will be equipped with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor that will produce 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak power and torque. In comparison, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that the car currently comes with produces 72 PS of maximum power and 96 Nm of peak torque. Currently, the prices of the regular Renault Triber range between Rs 5.50 lakh and Rs 7.95 lakh, ex-showroom. The sports edition might come at a premium of over Rs 1 lakh. The launch might take place around the festive season this year.
