Elon Musk Reacts to Getting Sued by Sleeping Tesla Driver
This short video clip comes from The Sigma Life on YouTube. It captures a snippet of an interview of Elon Musk with Joe Rogan. Musk mentions that people sue Tesla for all sorts of reasons. For instance, when a driver of a Tesla slept on the wheel and ran a cyclist over, he sued Tesla saying that he fell asleep due to the smell of the car. In many such cases, people overspeeding on highways end up getting involved in crashes but shift the blame on Tesla cars. He says that they don’t even realise that they survived a crash because of the safety capabilities and build quality of Tesla cars. That is quite frustrating.

In the latter part of the video clip, he mentions that thankfully the judicial system is professional and unbiased. He mentions that the judges and the jury can see through when some people just bring in bogus cases. That is the reason why he didn’t get into trouble. Nevertheless, it is quite ridiculous how people slap lawsuits against Tesla for just about anything. Musk also highlights that this is the reason why he wants the Autopilot function to be in all Tesla cars as soon as possible. It could prevent most of these cases by intervening and making the right decision. Let us see how soon the advanced Autopilot makes it to all Tesla cars.

Author’s Note
In all honesty, this is a tricky slope to tread. We understand that technology can offer unique solutions to boost the active safety of vehicles. However, we need properly marked roads and people who use this technology for what it is. There are many people who abuse and misuse such active safety features. We have to understand that these features are there for emergency cases and not to replace the driver. If that distinction is there, these functions can be greatly helpful in reducing car crashes. On the flip side, we also know that it is hard to depend on the technology alone. Still, the mass adoption will take some time. Until then, we should pledge to be responsible drivers and follow traffic rules.
