A man from Agartala has built an electric motorcycle with 1m distance between the rider and the pillion because he was not very keen on his daughter using the school bus after the lockdown ends.
The coronavirus crisis continues to gripple our country and several communities are struggling to come to terms with it. We long to get back to or normal lives and as automotive enthusiasts, we can’t wait to hit the road again. But some are saying that nothing will be quite the same anymore. Social distancing will continue to be the norm for a long time to come and we will have to change so many things in how we go about our daily lives.
In these times, a man from the north-eastern state of Tripura has come up with a very innovative way to main social distancing even when travelling in your vehicle. Social distancing has made people come up with innovative ideas with their set of wheels. Partha Saha, a school drop-out from Agartala has built an e-bike that has a space of 1 meter between the rider and the pillion. He has removed the engine from his motorcycle and cut the body in two halves before joining it again with a longer connected rod that before.
Mr. Saha is not very keen on her daughter using the school bus, even after the lockdown gets over. He has thus taken the responsibility upon himself and to set an example of social distancing, he has bothered to keep a distance of 1 meter between himself and his daughter. The motorbike itself is very simple in its architecture. Its mostly just the frame with no body panels whatsoever. The frame has two seats with even a grab handle for the pillion rider. The battery sits in the middle of the frame.

Mr Saha claims that it takes about three hours to charge the batteries and that it can go a distance of up to 80km on a single charge. It has a top-speed of 40 km/h, enough to run about in a small town like Agartala. A chain driven electric motor is mounted on the rear axle and the pillion seat even has a suspension setup. We must say the man has gone the length to make this motorbike as sophisticated as possible. Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Deb congratulated Saha on his innovation and said, “I congratulate Partha Saha of Tripura for making an unique motorcycle to create awareness during COVID-19 pandemic. The electric bike has 1 metre distance between two seats. He has designed it to take his daughter to school post lockdown.”

This is however not the only instance of innovation with vehicles. Some time ago, a man in West Bengal had modified his electric rickshaw to have four separate compartments for passengers to travel during the lockdown. It even caught the eyes of Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra group who even wanted to recruit him in his company in the R&D department.
