While a Ducati 400cc bike to rival the KTM RC390 sounds fantastic, the only Ducati to feature a 400cc motor so far is the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2
The sub-400cc performance motorcycle segment is slowly-but-surely heating up with the advent of a handful of models, including the Bajaj Dominar 400, KTM RC 390, TVS Apache RR310 and the BMW 310-twins. However, so far, of these, the only model that has really captured the imagination of the buyers is the RC390. Meanwhile, the not-for-India Scrambler Sixty2 is the only Ducati to feature a 400cc heart. But won’t it be an absolute delight to have a Ducati 400cc bike to rival the aforementioned middleweights? Well, at least so it seems in the rendering from ABIN DESIGN’s that we have with us today.

While the fully-faired 400cc Ducati motorcycle seen above is merely a figment of someone’s imagination, we reckon it won’t be far-fetched to hope for a faired sibling of the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 available in select markets. The urban-friendly premium motorcycle features a 399cc air-cooled two-valve V-twin that shares some components with the 803cc unit used in the bigger Scrambler. The Sixty2 even retains many qualities of the bigger sibling but a fully-faired version would required all-new bodywork along with various other changes i.e. if ever it actually becomes a production reality.
Stopping power for the Ducati 400cc bike to rival the KTM RC390 would come 320mm disc up front and a 245mm unit at the rear. ABS will be offered as standard. However, the Sixty2 misses out on USDs, while the motorcycle seen in the rendering features golden-finished upside-down forks. The baby-Scrambler carries traditional 41mm Showa forks instead. The 400cc heart of the Ducati pumps out a maximum power of 41hp and a peak torque of 34.6 Nm. On the other hand, the 2022 KTM RC390 carries a 373.3cc motor that puts out 43.5PS and 37Nm.

The Ducati Sixty2 has been around for many years now but it’s yet to make it to India simply because it’s not a low-cost Ducati for our price-sensitive market. In fact, in most countries, it’s only about 10 percent cheaper than the bigger Scrambler. So, bringing the baby Scrambler to our shores makes little sense unless, of course, there’s some sort of a relaxation in the taxes levied on sub-500cc imports. However, we do hope we get to have a fully-faired Ducati 400cc bike to compete with the very capable KTM RC390 some day. Till then, the fantastic renderings like the one seen above should be whet our appetite.
