One of the early compact SUVs in the country, the Ford EcoSport, is receiving discounts on its current models. It is also discontinuing a few variants and adding features to some of the variants. This comes at a time when almost all the other car manufacturers are introducing a price hike. Generally, this is how the industry functions, where at the start of the year, the prices of the cars are increased because of new raw material. This is a custom at the beginning of every new year. However, contrary to this, there is a pleasant new year surprise from Ford India. They are offering huge discounts on its EcoSport.
Let us take a look at which variant is offered with how much discount and which variants have been discontinued.
Ford EcoSport – Discontinued Variants
Ford has discontinued as many as 5 variants of the EcoSport from its lineup. The petrol variants include, Titanium AT, Titanium+ MT and Thunder MT and the diesel variants include, Titanium+ and Thunder variants. Recognizing the demand of the customers, Ford has equipped the EcoSport with new features including a Sunroof to the mid-spec Titanium variant. This means that the EcoSport offers Sunroof at Rs 9.79 lakh, ex-showroom, according to the updated prices.

This could have been done in order to boost sales, but more importantly to accommodate the new model 2021 Ford EcoSport that Ford is planning to launch this year. The Titanium+ variant was the highest-spec trim in the petrol version of the EcoSport. Ford is clearly missing its critically acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. But we already know that Ford EcoSport will be powered by new 1.2-litre turbo direct injection petrol. This will be sourced from Mahindra’s mStallion family.

Ford EcoSport – Engines and Transmission
This engine is good for 130hp and 230Nm and can be mated to a 6-speed manual or an automatic. This will make sure that the EcoSport also has a smaller capacity petrol engine with more grunt, which seems to be the trend these days, especially in the compact SUV space.
Currently, the EcoSport comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 123hp and 150Nm and a 1.5-litre diesel, making 100hp and 215Nm. The petrol engine can be mated with either a manual or an automatic gearbox, whereas the diesel can be had only with a manual transmission. The addition of the new engine will diversify EcoSport’s portfolio and provide the customers with a wide range of alternatives.
