As we are all aware of the fact that, Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been one of the most anticipated SUVs about to launch in India for quite some time now. We had seen the production-spec version at the Auto Expo last year. Thereafter, a ton of spy images have been leaked online of the Jimny and some images also show that Suzuki is testing the long-wheelbase version of the compact SUV. This leads us to believe that this might be the 5-door version of the Jimny which might make its way into our market sometime soon. Even the details of the specifications of the 5-door Jimny have surfaced the web. Suzuki has already started manufacturing the 3-door version of the Jimny in India and exporting it to various parts of the world. However, Maruti Suzuki had always hinted that it will only consider a 5-door version for our market, sensing our sensibilities. However, a recent sighting of the 5-door Suzuki Jimny has left us scratching our heads with its proportions.
If the image seen above is anything to go by, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny looks weird, especially when seen alongside the 3-door model. Clearly, the elongation of the wheelbase to support an extra pair of doors has ruined the proportions of the mini off-roader. The side profile looks completely disproportionate as the front door continues to be as wide as before, while the rear doors look miniscule. Also, the wheelbase seems to be longer than the 3,850 mm length that was revealed by leaked specs earlier.

5-Door Suzuki Jimny – Leaked Dimensions and Expected Exteriors
The fact sheet leaked online shows that the off-roading SUV will fall into the compact SUV segment in India being under 4 m in length. In fact, it may well be shorter than the Mahindra Thar. This will make sure that the Jimny will be able to avail of the tax benefits by being under 4m long. This will also ensure the practicality of it for day-to-day city usage. The wheelbase is expected to be 2550mm. From the current international models on sale, the exterior is something which we can guess.

The front end will be an updated version of the Gypsy that we’ve known all our lives, with rounded headlamps with DLRs, vertically slatted grille, tall bonnet line, chunky wheel arches with protective cladding, high-profile off-roading ready alloys along with short overhangs on both sides to maximize the approach, break-over and departure angles for better off-roading capabilities. The interiors will feature regular equipment like Digital Touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Digital Instrument Cluster, Steering-mounted Controls and a proper 4×4 drive system with a low ratio transfer case. Being built for an off-roading experience, there will be high ground clearance and great approach and departure angles.

5-Door Suzuki Jimny – Expected Engines, Prices and Rivals
The Suzuki Jimny will most likely be powered with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, which makes 103hp and 138Nm. It is the same engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga. There will be a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox on offer and maybe the inclusion of drive modes to enhance terrain responses and traction control. We expect the prices to remain in the vicinity of the Thar, say from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom range. It will be sold through the NEXA department of Maruti Suzuki. The direct rival will include Mahindra Thar alone and the upcoming Force Gurkha. The launch is likely to take place by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
