- It is simply amazing to see the irony in this latest event.
- Someone is using diesel to charge the EV, defeating the very purpose of the electric car.
- Innova Crysta doesn’t come in EV form in India which means that someone has retrofitted the motor and battery setup on it.
You couldn’t possibly miss the irony after watching a Toyota Innova Crysta EV charging using a diesel generator. The entire revolution of electrification is premised upon the fact that it would reduce our dependence on fossil-fuel-powered energy sources. But with this single activity, the entire purpose has been defeated. Nevertheless, we can’t help but notice the funny and ironic side of this entire saga. Let us take a look at the details.

Sadly, there aren’t too many details about this bizarre practice. But the visuals certainly show the MPV parked right next to a massive traditional diesel-powered generator. Moreover, the cable connecting the outlet of the generator to where the traditional fuel tank inlet is, is clearly visible. Supposedly, the owner of the Innova Crysta must’ve fitted the MPV with an aftermarket EV setup. This would include at least a battery and an electric motor.

Ideally, this would be the charging plug on the Innova to connect to the power source like electric sockets. However, to power an EV using diesel is being wasteful to the extreme. EVs are thought of as eco-friendly that cause relatively less pollution compared to traditional ICE-powered vehicles. However, using diesel to power EVs essentially translates to multiplying the carbon footprint since pollution was caused by the production of diesel, as well as battery for the EV.

Finally, we can confidently say that the automobile industry is moving toward electrification. It is becoming evident with each passing day that legacy automakers are already shifting their focus to green mobility. Additionally, new players are emerging that are starting out as electric mobility startups only. However, the development of the charging infrastructure continues to be the greatest hurdle in this EV revolution at the moment. But with time, things will inevitably improve in this regard as well. What are your thoughts on this matter?
