Although there are less petrol car buyers as compared to diesel car buyers, the petrol i20 and petrol Polo are quite popular. In our Petrol comparison post we have mentioned that the new i20 is a little longer than its predecessor. It is feature rich and also offers more space. The Polo still lacks on features but is a good car. If I had to make a choice between the two I would go with the i20 not only because of the new looks, but also the features, space and comfort. The i20 is new and definitely better in terms of features. Some of the features are automatic A/C, cluster ionizer, cooled glovebox, tilt and telescopic steering, push button start/stop engine, rear wiper and washer, 60:40 split seats, adjustable driver seat, electric sunroof, auto light control, fog lamps,ABS and EBD, parking assist, airbags etc.

Polo is solid and simple and offers a couple of feature, not as many as i20 does. The list includes disc brakes, height adjustable headsets, engine immobilizer, ABS, airbags, fog lamps, tilt and telescopic steering, and many more.

Both i20 and Polo are available in two engine options. The base models come with 1.2 litre engines and if you go through the outputs of the two engines, you would notice that i20’s 1.2 litre VTVT Kappa is better as it offers 83 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque. Whereas the Polo’s engine, not lagging much behind, offers 74 BHP of power and 110 Nm of torque. Even in terms of mileage i20 is better at 18.5 kmpl against Polo’s 17.2 kmpl.
If you opt for the Automatic i20, you will get a better 1.4 litre engine which is less fuel efficient but delivers more power and torque. Similarly if you want to own a little more powerful Polo, Volkswagen offers the same with a 1.6 litre engine.
Hyundai iGen i20 Petrol Performance & Handling Vs Volkswagen Polo Petrol Performance & Handling
Polo does have a better suspension which gives it more confidence over sharp turns and also makes it stable when speeding, though it is less comfortable than the i20. The i20 has a softer suspension which makes it comfortable but not as stable as the Polo. So for ride and handling the Polo is a better choice.

Hyundai i20 iGen Era Vs Volkswagen Polo Trendline
The most basic models with basic features are i20 Era and Polo Trendline. The i20 Era and Polo Trendline are at par in terms of features but have a price difference of Rs. 16,000 which is not much. So if you are looking for a basic comfortable car with better mileage go for the i20 iGen. In case you want a better-to-ride car then Polo Trendline is definitely there.
Hyundai i20 iGen Magna(O) Vs Volkswagen Polo Comfortline
There is also a Magna(O) model priced at Rs. 5.27 lakhs and comes with optional features which are not available in Magna. The extra features are rear defogger, ORVM mounted turn indicators, 2-DIN radio with MP3 player,AUX and USB connectivity, electrically adjustable outside mirrors etc. Compared to Magna(O), Polo Comfortline comes with less features at a comparable price. So once again the i20 wins.
Hyundai i20 iGen Asta Vs Volkswagen Polo Highline
The i20 Asta and the Polo Highline are quite close to each other in terms of pricing. There is a difference of Rs. 2,000 only but there is a remarkable difference in the number of features offered. The Asta is the top end variant with loads of features way better than those offered with Polo highline. On top of that it is a little cheaper as well. Yet again the i20 seems to be a better choice over Polo.
If you want Sunroof as a feature then you can opt for i20 Asta (O) which is priced at Rs. 6.65 lakhs. And if you wish to drive an automatic i20, Hyundai does offer the same at Rs. 7.67 lakhs, whereas Polo does not come in an automatic version.
Car Blog India Verdict– New Hyundai i20 iGen Petrol Vs Volkswagen Polo Petrol
As always we advice you to test drive both (some test drive tips here) the cars personally so as to differentiate better. Now coming to the verdict, i20 petrol offers better mileage, is extra powerful, is less pricier and more comfortable than Polo. Contrastingly Polo has better handling and is quite solidly built but lacks on features. So now it is up to you which manufacturer you prefer, the German Volkswagen or the Korean Hyundai. As far as our verdict is concerned and I am sure many of you will agree, the i20 is a better choice considering all the above mentioned plus points. Undoubtedly Polo is a good car, but i20 is slightly better.
