Just a couple of minutes back we compared 2012 Maruti Swift Dzire Diesel with 2011 Tata Indigo e-CS Diesel which I hope you people will like. Now it is time to compare the 2012 Maruti Swift Dzire petrol with Tata Indigo e-CS petrol.

Evidently and mentioning it once again, the Dzire 2012 is redesigned 2011 Maruti Swift. Or you can say it is a 2011 Maruti Swift Dzire but with a chopped boot. The overall appearance is more or less the same except at the rear where the car has a new and compact design. Comparing it with the existing Dzire it has a bunch of new things to be noted including new headlamps, tail lamps, alloys, fenders, fog lamp housing, etc.

The Indigo e-CS is not as sporty as the Dzire but is definitely elegant looking. The road presence of the car is good enough and being a Tata, the build is always fine. There may not be something very striking about the car but as an overall package it is quite nice.

The Dzire is less spacious than the e-CS but offers more features. The Indigo e-CS is not as cramped at the rear as the Dzire and offers enough room but at the same time it is not as loaded as the Dzire. The Dzire gets a 1.2 litre engine delivering 85.8 BHP and 114 Nm. The e-CS has a same capacity engine but delivers much less power and torque figures of 65 BHP and 100 Nm respectively. Fuel efficiency is also one of the strong attribute of the 2012 Dzire.

The chassis of Dzire is quite nice and this is one of the reason why it has good handling characteristics. The Indigo too has a good chassis but compared to Dzire, Tata still needs to work a lot.

Once again the Indigo leads in affordability. The base model is priced at 4.54 lakhs with the second variant coming at 4.74 lakhs and the top end at 5.04 lakhs. On close analysis you will notice that firstly there is a considerable price difference between the two cars and secondly there is no automatic variant in e-CS.

2012 Maruti Swift Dzire LXi Vs 2011 Tata Indigo e-CS GLX

We have already mentioned that e-CS is low on features but importantly except for ABS, rear seat arm rest and height adjustable driver seat, the GLX model offers everything. On the other hand the closest Swift variant is 5 k cheaper but offers less features.

The VXi automatic, VXi manual and ZXi top end are quite distinguishable in pricing and it will not be fair to compare them e-CS because of the price difference.

As always I would first advice you to take a test drive of both the cars before deciding. As far as the verdict is to be given, I would say that Dzire is for people who are willing to spend more money for a better car. It offers more features, including airbags, and rides extremely well. The e-CS is affordable, won’t strain your pocket much but is less on features and lacks the killing looks but as an overall package it’s a good deal.
