Datsun will soon be introducing a facelift and more equipment on the BS6 complaint version of the Redigo to take the competition up to the Espresso and Kwid.
Datsun updated the Redigo hatchback with an AMT gearbox sometime ago and now the car will soon receive its BS6 update. Along with that, Datsub will also give the Redigo a significant styling update and more features on the interiors as well. A camouflaged test mule of the Datsun Redigo facelift was recently spotted testing outside Chennai which reveals some of the new design elements. Let’s look at it in a little more detail.
From the looks of it, the Redigo has not changed so much in its overall stance and aesthetics. It still retains its tall-boy stance and raised ground clearance. Although we don’t have a front profile image of this test mule, the most amount of change is expected on the face of the car. That is because the updated hatchback will have to comply with the latest crash test norms that became effective on October 2019 and also the upcoming pedestrian safety norms.
In profile, the Redigo seems to have got new door panels as this test mule does not seem to have creases on the lower half of the doors. The pre-facelift model boasted of a rather deep crease that added a hint of muscularity to the budget hatchback’s looks. The rear of the car does not seem to have received any significant update either.

On the mechanical front, the Redigo will be powered by BS6 compliant versions of the current 0.8-liter and 1.0-liter engines under the hood. The former makes 54bhp while the latter makes 68bhp, albeit in BS4-spec. The BS6 compliant version of these engines are already on offer on the Renault Kwid and there will be no changes in the output figures. The smaller engine will continue with a 5-speed manual as standard, while the larger engine will continue to have an AMT option too.

However, in order to really take the competition to the Maruti Suzuki Espresso and the Renault Kwid, the Datsun Redigo will really have to up its ante with its interiors and equipment level on offer. You could thus expect some changes to the dashboard and overall interior layout. Expect a touchscreen infotainment system and dual-front airbags on the top-spec variant. Currently, the Redigo is priced from Rs 2.80-3.62 lakh for the 0.8-litre model and Rs 3.90-4.37 lakh for the 1.0-litre version. With the BS6 update and other changes, prices for the Redigo will go up by around Rs 10,000, depending on the variant.
