Datsun, Nissan‘s budget car brand, unveiled the new Datsun Go-Cross concept at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015. The latest design study from Datsun is based on the Go+ compact MPV and gives us a fair idea of what an upcoming compact crossover/SUV from the manufacturer could look like. It maybe noted that although the Go-Cross is merely a design study right now, the Datsun Go Cross India launch will take place eventually by early 2018 or the end of 2017. If given a green signal, the high amount of parts-sharing with the Go+ should ensure that the manufacturer doesn’t face too many issues with producing this car. The Go Cross concept was on display at the Auto Expo 2016, and here, in this post, we’ve put together all the available Datsun Go Cross photos and details. Check them out –
Like other Datsun cars in India, the Go Cross will be made in India and Indonesia. Datsun will use a high-level localisation to keep prices competitive. The Go Cross will share a fair bit with the GO+ MPV. We expect it to have 5 and 7 seat layouts.

Datsun Go Cross India Launch Date
Expected Launch Date | End 2017 |
The Datsun Go Cross India launch isn’t expected to happen at least until end 2017. That said, one just can’t ignore the popularity and demand for crossovers and SUVs in India. Hence, Datsun might bring the Go Cross to India earlier than expected. We expect Datsun to reveal more launch details by the end of this year.

Datsun Go Cross Price in India

Datsun Go Cross Base Model | Rs. 5.5 Lakhs |
Datsun Go Cross Top Model | Rs. 8 Lakhs |
While it might be too early to speculate, we still expect the Go Cross to have a starting price of around Rs. 5.5 Lakhs. The high component-sharing with the Go+ MPV will help Datsun price the Go Cross competitively. Also, Datsun India will use high-level localization to keep the costs really low. The top-end model of the Go Cross could have a price of Rs. 8 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

Being just a design study, the Go-Cross is yet to receive a motor. However, in most likelihood, the Go-Cross will share its motor with the Go+, which means it will receive the fairly potent 1.2-litre petrol motor that powers the compact MPV. It maybe noted that Datsun has been very vocal about its plans of staying away from Diesel engines and hence, the production-spec Go-Cross will not receive a Diesel motor. However, we reckon that offering the Go-Cross with a Diesel-sipping heart could make tremendous sense.
Assuming that the Datsun GO-Cross borrows the GO and GO+’s 1.2 L motor, this is what the specifications table could look like.
Datsun Go Cross Mileage
City | 16 KMPL* |
Highway | 20 KMPL* |
Overall | 18 KMPL* |
*expected mileage figures
The Go Cross will borrow its 1.2-litre Petrol engine from the Go. Hence, we expect it to have similar mileage figures. Datsun India is expected to re-tune the engine for Go Cross. This could increase the mileage and performance marginally.

Datsun GO Cross Exterior Design
As we said, the new Datsun Go-Cross is based on the Go+ MPV and hence, gets similar panels and other details. It boasts of the large hexagonal signature Datsun grille that comes finished in gloss black, stylish LED headlamps, a rugged front bumper that features a skid plate and LED fog-lights, roof rails and black plastic cladding. It is rather interesting to note the efficient manner in which Datsun has managed to infuse several rugged looking elements with the Go’s design. The production-spec Datsun Go Cross will lose some of the design elements as is generally the case, but features like the body cladding, skid plates, LED DRLs and larger wheels are expected to be retained.
Thanks to a bold silhouette and a high ground clearance, the GO Cross looks a lot like a compact SUV. It looks very rugged and masculine. The front-end features some chrome highlights, LED lamps and a silver faux skid plate. It also gets Auxiliary lamps and LED foglamps. In the side profile it looks attractive due to stylish alloys, roof rails and rugged body cladding. The rear-end is also smart with pseudo air intakes and LED taillamps.
Datsun GO Cross Interior Design
Datsun hasn’t revealed the interiors of the concept yet, but they will borrow heavily from the current GO and GO+ models. We’re not sure if Datsun will keep the third row of seats from the GO+ MPV, but it could add the the Go-Cross’ MPV credentials. The Go Cross could also get some radical bits for the interior. It is expected to get body-colored trim for the dashboard and a sporty steering wheel. It could also come with a bolder colour for the seat fabric. As the Go Cross will be aimed at the young and adventurous, it will have a more stylish interior. Expect the top model to have features like an Auto AC and built-in audio system.
