The Datsun Go and Go+ will see the introduction of a CVT gearbox in the wake of rising competition for both cars and might see some minor cosmetic updates as well.
Datsun will be unveiling a CVT version of both the Go and Go+ this month. Both these models will then be launched sometime in October. Other than the new gearbox, there isn’t going to be any other mechanical change to either of the cars. It will continue with the engine it already comes with.
The Datsun Go and Go+ are powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 67bhp at 5,000 rpm and 104Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Currently, this engine in both the cars comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The CVT gearbox is being introduced to generate some interest back in these cars with the growing demand for automatic vehicles.
That said, we think the real reason behind this update is to keep up with the competition. Renault has introduced the Triber which directly goes against the Datsun Go+. The Renault Triber is a very competent car which is quite feature loaded and looks good too. It will also be launched with the option of an AMT gearbox very soon. This could just be an effort to catch up with the competition.

On the other hand, the Datsun Go also has invited some new competition in the form of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. Maruti Suzuki will be unveiling this brand new car on September 30 and it will be priced very similarly to the Datsun Go. This will be Maruti’s new entry level hatchback but it will sell alongside the Alto K10. The S-Presso too will come with an automatic gearbox.

The Datsun Go and Go+ are both ageing models and haven’t been updated for a long time now. When the Go and Go+ are introduced with the CVT gearbox, there might be some cosmetic changes to both the cars that might come along with it as well. More details about the Datsun Go and the Go+ with CVT option will be known post its official unveiling later this month.
