The new generation model of the most loved compact sedan is on its way to continue the domination
I am comparing the new Maruti Dzire and the current model in terms of specs, price, features and design. Dzire is the most successful compact sedan in the country. Private individuals, as well as fleet operators buy it for many reasons. In the last few days, we have been witnessing the spy shots of the upcoming fourth-generation Dzire on Indian roads. In fact, there have been videos online which showcase the new Dzire heading to the dealerships ahead of the launch. Hence, we know exactly how the exterior will look. Let us take a look at the details of this comparison here.
Current Maruti Dzire vs New Dzire – Price
The current Maruti Dzire has been on sale in our market with the prices ranging from Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.34 lakh, ex-showroom. These are very competitive prices. On the other hand, the new Dzire has also been priced aggressively ranging from Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 10.14 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, the premium in the lower end is a little less than the top end. But the addition of tons of new-age amenities justifies it.

Base Model | Rs 6.57 lakh | Rs 6.79 lakh |
Top Model | Rs 9.34 lakh | Rs 10.14 lakh |
Current Maruti Dzire vs New Dzire – Specs and Mileage
This is where we will see a major difference. The current model possesses a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K Series naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. This ensures that the needs of all kinds of customers are satisfied. The mileage is around 22.5 km/l for both trims. In addition, this mill can also be had in a CNG version which produces 77 PS and 98.5 Nm of peak power and torque. In this case, you can only opt for a sole 5-speed manual gearbox. With the CNG avatar, it returns a fuel economy of 31.12 km/kg.
On the other hand, we know that the new Dzire will borrow the powertrain options from the new Swift. Therefore, it will get a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. This mill churns out a cool 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. Again, the transmission options include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. While we might see the CNG trim at a later stage, we know that in Swift, it makes 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm of peak power and torque. Also, the Swift CNG boasts a mileage of 32.85 km/kg. Hence, the differences will be huge in terms of mileage and specifications.

Current Maruti Dzire vs New Dzire – Design and Dimensions
This is the next part where you will be able to spot major differences. In fact, this will be the first time in the Dzire’s history that the design will be so different than its Swift counterpart. This time around, the new-gen model bears a distinct fascia with a sleek grille section with slim headlamp clusters. Also, the LED DRLs are integrated inside the headlight console and a thin chrome strip runs across the width of the vehicle. Down below, the radiator grille is colossal with horizontal strips and a sporty bumper with fog lamps on the edges. On the sides, the new Dzire gets stylish alloy wheels, black ORVMs and B-pillars along with a chrome frame around the windows. Finally, the tail section is also evidently different than the outgoing model. It gets a thick chrome slab on the bootlid connecting the LED taillamps. I feel the rear bumper is quite simple.
On the other hand, the old Maruti Dzire took design inspiration from the last-gen Swift. Hence, it had swept-back headlamps and a large radiator grille in the centre. Note that the grille had a chrome frame which highlighted its fascia. In addition, it had large fog lamp housings with chrome inserts to lend it a blingy appearance. On the sides, the alloy wheels accentuated the profile along with black B-pillars and turn indicators mounted on the ORVMs. At the rear, it also had a chrome strip which connected the taillamps, chrome embellishment on the rear bumper and a slightly raised tailgate. I reckon the taillights are a bit bigger. In any case, both these are completely different in terms of the exterior styling.

My View
The prices of both these are in sync with what we have expected for a new-gen version. We know most aspects related to the aesthetics, specifications and many in-cabin features, it is clear that this will be a huge step-up for the customers in comparison to the current-gen model. The Indo-Japanese car marque has broken away from the similarities with the Swift and the new Dzire proves just that. It wants to offer a slightly more premium vibe, a common requirement among buyers in this segment. With a full 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP, the new Dzire is definitely miles apart from any other Maruti car ever. Therefore, the latest Maruti Dzire is a perfect update from the outgoing model.
